Overwatch 2 Season 17 Adds Map Voting, Dual Mythic Drop At Launch

In the coming week, we’ll kick off Overwatch 2 Season 17, bringing a variety of enhancements, novelties, and tweaks. One significant alteration is the incorporation of map voting in quick play and competitive matches, allowing players to express their preferences about where their fight takes place.

On Overwatch’s official site, it is detailed that before each match, players can select three potential maps at random. These maps aren’t chosen based on a simple vote, though. Instead, each vote increases the odds by 1 in 10 that a specific map will be picked using a final roulette-style draw. Your voting selections remain private from other players, and penalties for leaving will apply as soon as voting commences for those trying to depart early.

Additionally, Blizzard unveiled the launch trailer for Overwatch 2’s Season 17, featuring an 80’s retro vibe.

On the opening day of Season 17, the legendary skins for characters D.Va and Reaper will make their debut together. The legendary Horang Hero Skin for D.Va goes through four stages of evolution, just like the Steel Death Weapon Skin for Reaper. These skins can be acquired by visiting the Mythic Shop and spending 80 Mythic Prisms each.

Three new maps will join the game, with Aatlis (Flashpoint map set in Morocco) being accessible in Core mode. On the other hand, Esperança and Samoa are destined for Stadium. With Season 17 on the horizon, everyone’s Stadium rank will be reset, offering a new beginning. Additionally, Stadium Forge is being introduced as a tool to create, save, and share custom team compositions to test and improve them.

As an avid fan, I’m thrilled about the Season 17 Battle Pass! It offers characters like 8-bit Reinhardt, Genji, Sombra, Delinquent Cole Cassidy, Sakura Ana, and Professor Fawkes Junkrat from Overwatch Academy. Owners of the Battle Pass will also receive loot boxes, 500 credits, new cosmetics, and up to 80 Mythic Prisms. The Ultimate Battle Pass takes it a step further with additional perks such as 20 tier skips, 2,000 Overwatch coins, and exclusive skins for Principal Lacroix Widowmaker and Professor de Kuiper Sigma. For those who prefer not to spend money, there’s an option to earn a Legendary loot box, 600 coins, 1,500 Credits, along with the Epic 8-bit Orisa and Zenyatta skins!

Starting on June 24th, Overwatch 2’s Season 17 is set to commence. The season will initiate with a Powered Up event that lasts from June 24th to June 30th. During this time, players who complete 17 matches in quick play, competitive, or Stadium modes will receive four Epic loot boxes. These loot boxes are guaranteed to contain a Legendary skin.
