“It’s the right age.” Gary Oldman would love to play a key role in the Harry Potter series from HBO Max, but this one is already cast

Gary Oldman is widely recognized by Harry Potter enthusiasts as Sirius Black, the character he brilliantly portrayed in three movies from the beloved series. Despite his brief screen time, audiences admired Oldman’s performance in this role. Even though Oldman himself deemed his performance in the Harry Potter films as average, fans have a very different perspective, finding his portrayal of Sirius Black to be truly impressive.

It’s likely that they’d be equally amazed by the skilled actor expressing interest in portraying Albus Dumbledore, as he shared during his conversation with Variety. Oldman believes himself to be of the appropriate age to embody the character of Hogwarts’ headmaster.

I’ve been thinking about trying my hand at Dumbledore, as I feel it’s an appropriate time, given his age.

It turns out that the role of Dumbledore in the Harry Potter series on HBO Max has been given to John Lithgow, leaving out Michael Gambon who is well-known as Sirius Black among HP fans. This means that Gambon won’t have a chance to portray this character.

In addition, as Oldman himself admitted, the creators likely wouldn’t consider casting him for the series given his previous association with the original material, since he feels “they won’t venture anywhere near people linked to the originals.” This sentiment seems accurate because the cast for the Harry Potter series does not include any actors who have previously appeared in the films, and at this point, eighteen roles have already been filled.

This summer, it’s anticipated that actors will commence work on the “Harry Potter” series. Already under construction are sets for the movie, where they will soon step into roles from the enchanting universe. Meanwhile, Gary Oldman’s fifth season of “Slow Horses” is slated to premiere in September.
