New AI device records your dreams by turning them into videos

The innovative device, known as ‘Dream Recorder’, claims it employs artificial intelligence technology to transform your dreams into video form.

On June 17, 2025, Modem Works shared on Twitter details about their newest invention called the Dream Recorder.

The modem indicates that it’s possible to create a compact, seemingly basic device entirely through 3D printing at home. This device can be customized using open-source software available for download. It has an intriguing glow-in-the-dark feature and operates independently without requiring connection to a smartphone or external application.

The Dream Recorder operates by employing AI technology to generate simplified video clips similar to initial iterations of the DALL-E mini. These videos lack high resolution, and their scenes transition smoothly, much like what’s demonstrated on Modem’s site.

The ‘Dream Recorder’ can bring your dreams to life – sort of

Users need to speak aloud about their dreams to the Dream Recorder, which then generates videos based on them. The gadget stores up to seven videos at once – one for every day of the week.

Just hours ago, I shared my creation, The Dream Recorder, and it’s been making waves! People can’t help but be both amazed and skeptical. It’s a surreal feeling to see such immediate attention and response.

“The coolest part about this is ultra-low definition as a feature,” one remarked.

As a fan, I’m curious about the safety and ethical guidelines. For instance, will it portray a disturbing nightmare scenario? Another inquiry was answered by Modem with, “Let your unconscious mind express itself.

Apart from the gadget you’re referring to, Modem hasn’t limited its innovation to just one piece. In fact, they have designed another compact device called ‘Terra,’ which is ideal for adventurers and travelers.

The Terra functions as a multi-purpose guide, combining GPS, compass, and an AI buddy. It empowers users to verbally specify their desired destination. In return, it provides directions to the most suitable trail based on your intentions, time availability, and exact location, tailoring the GPS coordinates accordingly.

3D printing the Terra is just as accessible as using the Dream Recorder; you can do it yourself! The open-source code allows for programming, while its sleek design and “soft tactile responses” make it feel like a smooth stone to carry around. It’s perfect for exploring new places without worrying about getting lost.
