Before Borderlands 4 began its pre-sale phase, many fans were curious about the game’s price. However, it seems that the questions they should have been asking were about the system requirements for the game. Gearbox Software has now revealed the PC specifications for Borderlands 4, and they are quite striking. However, these requirements might not be as stringent as they initially seem.
Today, I got excited as I stumbled upon some intriguing specifications for Borderlands 4, posted on its official Steam page! Here they are, just in case you missed them:
[Stats of Borderlands 4]

- Memory: 32 GB RAM
- Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 / AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT

- Additional Notes: Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system. Requires 8+ CPU Cores for processor. Requires 12+ GB VRAM for graphics. SSD storage required
Minimum:
- Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
- OS: Windows 10 / Windows 11
- Processor: Intel Core i7-9700 / AMD Ryzen 7 2700X
- Memory: 16 GB RAM
- Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 / AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT
- Storage: 100 GB available space
- Additional Notes: Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system. Requires 8 CPU Cores for processor. Requires 8 GB VRAM for graphics. SSD storage required
Despite the limited apparent flexibility for storage, processor, and graphics, there might still be some leeway for these components specifically. For instance, PC Gamer points out that the game could run on an AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT, which lacks ray tracing support like the Nvidia RTX 2070. This implies that ray tracing might not be essential for the graphics card. Moreover, according to PC Gamer, the AMD Ryzen 5 9600X CPU could potentially run Borderlands 4, even though it’s not included in the minimum specifications. Both lists stipulate that an SSD storage of between 8-12 GB VRAM is necessary for the graphics card.
This week, Gearbox unveiled their post-release plans for Borderlands 4, revealing that players who wish to obtain the new Vault Hunters must purchase the $130 Super Deluxe Edition. However, it remains undecided whether Gearbox will offer these additions as individual DLC packs. The upcoming content includes additional storylines and side missions, along with Bounty Packs that feature new zones, missions, and challenging boss fights to reward extra loot. These Bounty Packs are included in both the Deluxe and Super Deluxe Editions.
Borderlands 4 will hit PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch 2 on September 12.
