Nintendo is permanently banning Switch 2 consoles that use pirated games

Two individuals allegedly face restrictions from accessing the online platform, following their attempt to utilize a specific cartridge designed for playing unauthorized video games.

In early May, just about a month prior to the launch of the Switch 2, Nintendo made some changes to its User Account Agreement and Privacy Policy by incorporating a provision that disallows users from circumventing, altering, decrypting, defeating, or tampering with their games and services.

If the system finds out that you’re not following the rules, Nintendo includes a part stating they have the power to make your gaming console inoperable.

Initially, there was a lot of speculation about how stringent Nintendo’s new rules might be. However, it appears that users owning the widely-popular MiG Flash cartridge are allegedly being barred from accessing their online services.

Switch 2 owners are getting banned

On the Switch2Hacks subreddit, a user cautioned other users against employing the MiG Flash tool on their Switch 2 devices.

They mentioned that they wanted to share some important information – don’t use the MiG Flash on the Nintendo Switch 2 for the time being, because their Switch 2 got banned (but their account is still okay). The only games they had were backed-up ones. It seems like there might be a new detection system from Nintendo that targets these MIG switches. I guess I was careless to take it online.

Many people swarmed to the post’s comment section, all saying similar things. They utilized the MiG Flash device to run their own legitimately bought video games, only to find themselves barred from using Nintendo’s online services not long afterward.

During the time the Mig flash update was activated, I utilized it. As a result, my console was banned. However, when I reviewed my account on the Switch OLED, I found that I’m not banned from their services.

I too encountered this problem. Just hours ago, I played my personally backed-up games on the MIG Switch and received a ban. At least it’s now confirmed that they can detect the MIG Switch.

2024 saw the introduction of the MiG Flash Cartridge for the Nintendo Switch, a game-changer for me as a gaming enthusiast. Instead of constantly swapping out cartridges to play different titles, this innovation lets me enjoy all my favorite games seamlessly!

It was introduced together with an additional tool, enabling users to save copies of their purchased video games onto the MiG Flash drive without needing online downloads.

Previously, Nintendo has also confronted the issue of the MiG Flash cartridge, as evidenced by their lawsuit against its manufacturer in June 2024 due to the device’s capability to circumvent Nintendo’s copyright protection on the Switch console.
