Although Marvel Studios will not appear on the main stage at San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) this year, fans can expect updates about the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Even though they won’t have a big presence, smaller panels and unexpected announcements are planned for July in Southern California.
Marvel Studios won’t be present at San Diego Comic-Con’s prime Saturday night slot in Hall H, causing some fans to ponder about potential MCU updates during the event. Nevertheless, according to insider Alex Perez, Marvel Animation is anticipated to hold its own panel on Friday, July 25, which he described as “as usual.” This could imply that followers can look forward to news or glimpses of various forthcoming animated projects under the Marvel Studios Animation label.
It seems that Marvel Studios decided to skip Hall H in 2025 due to timing issues rather than any other reason. Since they don’t have a new movie coming out during SDCC, it made more sense for them to stay on the sidelines this year. Interestingly, their next big film, “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” will be released the same weekend as SDCC, but Marvel is currently in the thick of producing “Avengers: Doomsday,” which was recently delayed until December 18, 2026. As they don’t have much footage or significant announcements ready for this film, it didn’t feel appropriate for them to hold their signature panel at this time. Instead, their focus this year appears to be on animation, as they plan to share intriguing news about the future of the MCU on Disney+ in 2025 and 2026.
Marvel Animation Shows Headed to SDCC
Eyes of Wakanda
On August 6, 2025, the upcoming series “Eyes of Wakanda” is set to debut, serving as the next installment in the universe of Black Panther. This could potentially be a central topic at the San Diego Comic-Con Marvel Animation panel. Since the convention is approaching, Marvel Studios might choose to reveal an extended trailer or even premiere the first episode for exclusive viewing by attendees.
With Ryan Coogler’s participation and hints about a fresh character named Noni, fans can anticipate an immersive exploration of Wakandan history that encompasses various generations. The D23 sneak peek seems to imply a “glowing fist,” which may indicate the introduction of a new Iron Fist, possibly reimagined with connections to Wakanda.
Marvel Zombies
Marvel’s Zombies makes its debut on Disney+ on October 3, 2025, marking what could be one of Marvel Animation’s most daring ventures thus far. With a confirmed TV-MA rating and a gritty, post-apocalyptic backdrop, this project promises to be particularly violent and mature.
In the D23 footage, we saw Wenwu, Shang-Chi, and Katy battling Skrull outlaws in a barren landscape, hinting at an unanticipated development in the Shang-Chi saga within an alternate reality. At SDCC, Marvel could provide a deeper, possibly uncensored glimpse into this world, potentially sharing an intense trailer, fresh cast announcements, or a detailed explanation of the four episode-like installments. The series’ anthology structure allows for cameos by less frequently utilized MCU characters or even the return of beloved actors in unexpected manners.
X-Men ’97 Season 2
As for the release date of X-Men ’97 Season 2 in 2026, it hasn’t been disclosed as of now. Nevertheless, the series is eagerly awaited by fans, following the success of its initial season which received critical acclaim. At D23 2024, a variety of characters were confirmed, including Bishop who will play a more significant role and Danger making her first appearance.
This summer at San Diego Comic-Con, I’m all geared up for Marvel to drop a full teaser trailer, lock down a release window for 2026, and maybe even treat us lucky fans with a sneak peek at an already completed episode! After the mind-blowing cliffhangers in Season 1, I can hardly wait to see how those storylines unfold during their panel.
Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Season 2
As work on Season 2 of “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man” progresses nicely, San Diego Comic-Con 2025 could potentially serve as the grand stage for revealing the second chapter of our favorite web-slinger’s adventures.
Brad Winderbaum, who serves as the Head of Streaming, Television, and Animation at Marvel Studios, has confirmed that the second season of “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man” will premiere in 2026. Despite some initial challenges during production, the plan is to unveil new seasons every year from then on.
At the SDCC panel, we might get a sneak peek into how Peter Parker’s character progresses in this different timeline, particularly post the symbiote’s arrival and his growing bond with Norman Osborn. With Marvel Animation planning for at least three seasons, they could also hint at how they’re shaping Spider-Man’s overarching storyline across the high school series and give us a taste of other MCU characters who will make an appearance.
