Streamer RaKai is currently suspended from Twitch, following their recent policy enforcement focusing on irresponsible driving and modifications to their guidelines concerning mobile phone usage when driving a vehicle.
For a while now, it’s become common on Twitch for people to broadcast themselves driving, thanks to customized in-car streaming setups that enable streamers to engage with their chat while keeping their eyes on the road and minimizing distractions.
On several occasions, streamers have found themselves breaking both Twitch’s guidelines and traffic regulations.
As a gamer and an IRL (In Real Life) streamer like RaKai, it’s unfortunate to admit that I sometimes find myself making mistakes in the heat of streaming. On June 15, for instance, I was live on my channel, but my attention seemed divided between the road and my phone – a situation I deeply regret. This is not a behavior I want to emulate or encourage among fellow streamers or viewers.
RaKai hit with Twitch ban for dangerous driving
As a gamer, in a heartbeat, I found myself grappling to regain control over the steering wheel, narrowly avoiding a dangerous swerve off the road while my eyes were fixated on my phone. Another instant replay even caught me looking at my phone unblinkingly for a full 7 seconds, positioning it right before my face and obstructing my view of the road ahead.
Viewers reported the two clips in question, leading to the streamer receiving a ban on June 16.
RaKai had received a heads-up from Kai about the possibility of a ban, given that Twitch revised their safety guidelines regarding reckless driving on June 9.
As a gamer, I found myself in hot water when I got caught up on my phone during a live stream on Twitch, leading to some risky driving behavior that resulted in a ban. Oops!

It is not allowed to drive recklessly or inattentively, such as taking your focus away from the road or your hands off the wheel to interact with your Twitch stream, as this behavior is always unacceptable while driving.
It’s okay to prepare your streaming device or camera before you start driving, by doing so in a secure spot. However, it is not safe to read messages or continuously interact with your streaming gadget during the drive.”
Or more concisely:
“Preparing your streaming device/camera before driving (okay) vs Reading/interacting with it while driving (not safe).
On Twitch, the duration of bans isn’t openly disclosed, but typically, a first suspension lasts for about 24 hours. In April, ExtraEmily encountered this ban after her live stream showed her going through a red light.
