One aspect of Minecraft that can be quite annoying is the tool wear-and-tear mechanism. The more frequently you employ an item, the quicker it wears out until eventually it shatters. However, there are means to extend this deterioration period, like enhancing your items’ durability with Minecraft enchantments. Yet, repairing your tools is another option. Here’s how you can do it:
1. First, gather two identical tools or weapons (for example, two iron swords).
2. Place one tool in the first slot of your hotbar and the other one in the second slot.
3. Now, find an anvil nearby by exploring your world or using commands if needed.
4. Right-click on the anvil to open its interface, then drag and drop the tool from the first slot into the left side of the anvil (repair slot).
5. Click on the ‘Repair’ button located at the bottom right corner of the interface, and the tool will be repaired using the second tool as the repair material. If there is enough durability in the second tool to cover the damage, your first tool will now have its full durability restored.
When you put together two identical items on your crafting table or grinding wheel, you’ll receive an upgraded version of that item with enhanced durability. The new item’s durability will be the combined durability of the original items plus 5% of the maximum uses, but not exceeding the maximum durability of the item. This repair process can help manage your inventory by saving space: for example, if you combine two nearly broken pickaxes to get a stronger one, you’ll also free up an inventory slot.
If the items in question are enchanted, be aware that this procedure will cause you to forfeit those enchantments. Consequently, merging an unwanted item with a desired one can help eliminate any unintended or unwanted enchantments. This technique is also useful if your goal is to strip an item of all its enchantments entirely.
Apart from using an anvil for crafting new items, you can also employ it to mend two identical items like axes, at a cost of XP. Interestingly, this process maintains or even improves the magical properties (enchantments) on your gear. To do so, insert the more worn-out item into the first slot and the less damaged one in the second. The durability of the second item will be transferred to the first, along with some or all of its enchantments.
You can also mend or fix an item by concealing its damage with a specific material. For instance, you could use diamonds to repair a damaged piece of equipment. Each application of the material restores approximately 25% of the item’s total durability.
For creating these items, you should gather materials that correspond to the material type each item is made from. For instance:
– Wooden items require planks
– Leather items require leather
– Stone items can use cobblestone, deepslate cobble, or blackstone
– Iron items need iron ingots
– Gold items need gold ingots
– Diamond items require diamonds
– Turtle shells call for scutes
– Elytra need phantom membranes
– And netherite items demand netherite ingots.
