As a gaming enthusiast, I can’t help but feel nostalgic about the iconic GameCube controller that Nintendo is bringing back for the rumored Nintendo Switch 2. This controller has stood the test of time, especially within the vibrant Super Smash Bros. community. However, while the official wireless controller is perfect for playing GameCube games on Switch Online, its commitment to authenticity might make it less versatile for modern titles.
If you’re like me and crave a GameCube-inspired controller with a dash of 21st-century upgrades, then the new NYXI Warrior Lite is worth checking out. Priced at $50, this wireless controller boasts pro-style features that make it just as suitable for the upcoming Tears of the Kingdom as it was for The Wind Waker.

In terms of personalization, we find that the Warrior series stands out as the most remarkable controller in design, reminiscent of the GameCube era. However, there are other GameCube-style controllers for Switch 2 that provide a more genuine gaming experience. As previously stated, Nintendo’s newly developed wireless GameCube controller for Switch 2 comes very close to the original version. It has a similar feel, minus the cord, and includes some additional small buttons on top: a C button for chat in games, home/menu buttons, and an extra ZL button to compensate for the single shoulder button on the original GameCube controller. Yet, while this is perfect for playing GameCube games through Switch Online, the tiny ZL button may not be suitable for modern games that typically require multiple shoulder buttons.
These officially licensed GameCube-style controllers from PowerA and Hori boast designs inspired by Nintendo, with a modernized arrangement for shoulder buttons and triggers. They resemble the original GameCube controller more closely due to their slimmer design as opposed to the NYXI Warrior’s bulkier shape.
NYXI is set to launch a revised edition of its Wizard controller, featuring TMR electromagnetic sticks. In handheld mode, this Wizard replaces the Joy-Con controllers on both the original Switch and Switch OLED models. Interestingly, in docked mode, the left and right sides can link wirelessly as a single controller. However, it’s essential to mention that the Wizard 2 will only function in handheld mode for original Switch consoles. At present, you can’t find it on Amazon, but you can pre-order the upcoming controller for $80 directly from NYXI. Sadly, the original Wizard controller is no longer available for purchase.
If you’re searching for a traditional Switch 2 gamepad, explore our collection of 8BitDo controllers designed for Switch 2. For those who often play in handheld mode, the GameSir G8 Plus Galileo might be an excellent choice as it’s similar to the Joy-Con 2 Controllers and works with mobile devices too. Additionally, NYXI offers a conventional wireless controller with customization options that you can check out here.
