Joey Chestnut is returning to Nathan’s hot dog eating contest after year-long ban

2024 saw a temporary absence for competitive eater Joey Chestnut from the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating competition, but he is now all set to make a comeback and participate once again.

Each year on July 4th, the competition occurs, which is organized by one of the globally recognized hot dog manufacturers – Nathan’s.

16 times as the victor in the annual hot dog-eating competition, Joey Chestnut has earned that title. However, his decision to accept a promotional agreement with a rival company of Nathan’s Famous, the contest’s organizer, led to his exclusion from participating in the 2024 event.

On Monday, June 16th, the returning competitive eater disclosed that he had reached an agreement with Nathan’s, enabling his participation in this year’s competition, which we might say was a mutual understanding or shared space they found.

He expressed his excitement about going back to the annual Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July Hot Dog Eating Contest on X. For him, this event is more than just a competition; it symbolizes tradition, reflects American culture, and plays an integral role in his personal experiences.

2024 saw Chestnut taking a break from the competition, but Patrick Bertoletti seized the opportunity and emerged victorious by consuming 58 hot dogs. This year, he’ll face Joey as he defends his hard-earned championship title.
