According to Piscatella, it was found that about 79% of individuals who got a Switch 2 system ended up acquiring Mario Kart World as well. Some obtained this Nintendo game by buying the $500 Switch 2 bundle that included it, while others opted to buy the standalone game for around $80.

In the United States, the initial week saw the highest sales of the top three physical games for the Switch 2 console, which were Mario Kart World, Cyberpunk 2077, and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom’s Switch 2 Edition, as reported by Circana. Mario Kart World is under pressure to perform well, given that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has sold an impressive 68.2 million units, with 8.46 million copies of Mario Kart 8 being sold separately, bringing the total to a staggering 76.66 million.

Ultimately, Piscatella confirmed that the Switch 2 broke the previous record for first-week sales of gaming hardware in the U.S., outperforming the PS4’s previous benchmark. On a global scale, the Switch 2 has become the quickest-selling console ever made.
