It recently struck me, perhaps long overdue, that I hadn’t fully grasped the depth of Legally Blonde until now, and I can’t help but share my newfound insights on the subject.
Among the most memorable films of the 2000s, Legally Blonde stands out as one of the most iconic. From Reese Witherspoon’s stellar performance to its themes of female empowerment and the sheer hilarity that arises from the dialogue delivery, this movie is nothing short of extraordinary.
After a long time, I watched it once more, and suddenly, an understanding about the love story blossomed in my mind. As a child, I didn’t grasp its significance, but now that I reflect on it, I feel compelled to discuss why I believe it ranks among the best.
I’ve Always Loved The Movie With All My Heart
I mean that in the purest way possible, because Legally Blonde actually did change me.
As a movie reviewer, let me confess something to you. Growing up, I wasn’t always comfortable in my own skin, especially during high school and before college. Despite being biologically female, I often found myself awkwardly navigating the world of femininity. Dressing as a girl, yet feeling disconnected, I avoided many traditionally ‘girly’ things because I didn’t believe I deserved them or feared looking foolish. For years, I struggled with self-image and beauty standards, feeling unworthy and out of place.
As a young, naive teenager, I watched Legally Blonde. Despite Elle being the epitome of conventional beauty, what truly captivated me and motivated me to change my behavior and appreciate my femininity was not her looks, but rather her confidence.
Following that, I began imitating her by accepting myself fully and venturing beyond my comfort zone, trying things I had never dared before. Now, over a decade later, I’m significantly more at ease with myself and have gained a wealth of self-knowledge, all due to watching that movie as a child. She ignited in me the desire to grow and strive for what I wanted, and I am eternally grateful for that influence.
It wasn’t until my mid-twenties that I finally grasped one thing about Emmett that made him an exceptional boyfriend – something that only recently became clear to me.

But I Realized Why Emmett Is Such An Amazing Boyfriend – Because He Doesn’t Get In Elle’s Way
It’s clear that many popular romantic comedies have left a lasting impression on us, becoming true classics. However, it’s important to acknowledge that quite a few of these films feature male leads whose moral compass may not always point north.
I have no issue with complex characters – in fact, they often serve as captivating love interests in numerous upcoming book-to-screen productions – but personally, for a scenario such as this, I’d much rather have someone who uplifts the leading lady instead of undermining her.
Now, suddenly, years later, that’s what I realized – that Emmett is the perfect example of that.
Initially, Elle’s primary objective for attending Harvard was to rekindle her relationship with Warren, whom she later came to see as unworthy of her in every way. However, by the end of the film, she recognizes his true nature as a jerk and decides to carve out her own path as a proficient lawyer, independent from him.
Emmett serves as an ideal match for her. In many ways, Elle resembles a hurricane – stunningly fierce and impressively strong in her determination to carve out her own path. She takes whatever steps are necessary to achieve success, whether it’s purchasing a new computer, dedicating countless hours to study, or cultivating connections, all with the aim of demonstrating that she is infinitely more valuable than others may perceive.
He embodies a tranquil center amidst chaos – a soothing influence. He never stirs up any turmoil, and he absolutely lacks any negative qualities whatsoever. In truth, he is an ideal confidant for her during times of stress or sadness, as portrayed consistently throughout the movie (apart from her comical exchanges with Jennifer Coolidge’s character).
He is ideal as he blends harmoniously with her – walking beside her rather than drawing attention to himself. Instead of stealing the limelight, he focuses it on her, illuminating the place where she stands and beyond.

He Supports Her Through and Through, Right From The Beginning
From the onset of the film, long before any inkling of affection emerged, he was always there to aid her and offer support.
On my very first encounter with her, I witnessed her weeping, humiliated following a classroom session. Moved by her plight, I felt compelled to share some guidance about her instructors. Indeed, such kindness speaks volumes about his character.
To him, she was an absolute acquaintance. Yet, despite her being someone who could have fit seamlessly into Harvard’s crowd and possibly judged her for her fashion or demeanor, he opted to offer her the valuable advice she so urgently required, even flashing a smile. That’s the kind of individual Elle needs – and the kind of on-screen love interest that I find myself inexplicably fond of.

And In The End, It’s Not Some Gushy Romance – It’s About Him Being Her Biggest Fan
In my viewpoint, what I cherish most in the movie “Legally Blonde” isn’t merely Elle finding a superior man at the end, but rather it showcases her self-discovery, transforming into an improved version of herself. Emmett plays a significant role by being her encourager throughout this journey.
She ascended to the role of Valedictorian, surprising everyone with her extraordinary achievements beyond expectation. As the final credits roll, they highlight her accomplishments, then disclose that she and Emmett have been an item, with him planning to pop the question that very night. In a nutshell, their bond is one of surprise, growth, and impending commitment.
1. They don’t require unnecessary fuss since they are productive individuals. He adores her both for who she was and who she has evolved into, and he’s proven to be an ideal constant support for her diligent nature. I just can’t help but appreciate it.
2. They don’t need the extra turbulence as they’re already productive. He cherishes her not only for who she once was but also for the person she has grown into, and he has been a perfect stable ally to her driven personality. I simply can’t help but admire it.
3. They don’t ask for all the drama as they are productive people. He appreciates her not just for who she was but also for who she has become, and he has been an ideal constant companion for her hardworking self. It’s impossible not to love it.

If Legally Blonde 3 Ever Happens, I Truly Hope That They’re Still An Item
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but wonder if we might see the return of Elle in “Legally Blonde 3”. With the recent launch of the Elle TV series on Amazon Prime, it seems like progress is being made, and there certainly appears to be an appetite for more. However, as of now, no fresh updates regarding its release have surfaced.
Regardless, I fervently wish that Luke Wilson reprises his role as Emmett for a third time. To be honest, these two characters embody the pinnacle of aspirations for me. The mere thought of them not appearing together in another movie would leave me utterly devastated.
Wow, it’s time for me to sort through all those on-screen romantic leads, comparing them to Emmett. Let’s kick off another movie binge!
