YouTuber JerryRigEverything claims the Switch 2 is “basically invincible”

According to tech vlogger JerryRigEverything, he found that the Switch 2 appears incredibly durable following his disassembly and strength test of its screen.

On June 5, 2025, Nintendo launched the Switch 2. However, shortly before its release, they cautioned consumers about an issue concerning the console’s screen on the newly released hybrid device.

The company revealed that a protective “non-reflective sticky film” has been applied to the screen for safety reasons, such as preventing glass splinters if the device breaks while in use. They emphasized that users should not attempt to take off this film.

Despite the caution, YouTube personality JerryRigEverything chose to disregard it and take off the screen protector. Upon this action, he found himself taken aback by the findings.

YouTuber beats Switch 2 with pliers until it breaks

Following the removal of the protective plastic and a thorough disassembly of the Joy-Con controllers, JerryRigEverything opted to perform the safety precaution advised by Nintendo personally.

In response, JRE picked up a large set of pliers and began tapping on the screen, quite astonished to find that it withstood more than a dozen hard blows without shattering.

The YouTuber remarked that if this demonstration didn’t convince you of the Switch 2’s robustness, then perhaps no other proof would. He then proceeded to repeatedly tap on the screen, eventually causing it to crack.

After hitting the surface 50 times with my oversized pliers, we discovered there was a delicate layer of glass, as suspected. In the slowed-down footage, you can witness the truth Nintendo hinted at – it splinters into tiny, sharp fragments of glass once that protective layer is removed.

The majority of the glass on the LCD remains attached, but there are numerous tiny fragments of crushed glass and dirt that could potentially harm children’s fingertips or eyes. Therefore, I’m relieved that Nintendo has an extra protective covering, and I advise against removing this safety layer.

As a gamer, I’d say, “I experienced a brief hiccup with the Switch 2 recently. It seemed to freeze up for a moment, but a swift restart brought it back to life. So, in my books, it’s like nothing can truly break this console – it’s almost indestructible!
