1986 MSX version of the classic action RPG Tritorn gets an EGG Console Switch port on June 19

On June 19th, D4 Enterprise is planning to unveil a fresh adaptation of the classic game Tritorn, modeled after its 1986 MSX version, on Nintendo Switch. The company has established Nintendo eShop listings for this port across the globe, including in the US marketplace. The price tag will be $6.49.

The Switch isn’t receiving the first adaptation of this game; D4 Enterprise previously brought the 1985 PC-8801 version to the Switch last June 2024. However, they mentioned that the MSX version has a noticeably distinct gameplay style due to its robust bosses in comparison to other releases.

Below, you’ll discover the authentic gameplay trailer for Tritorn, inspired by its MSX edition, following the release of the PC adaptation. A collection of screenshots and descriptions of the very same game will then be presented.

In the epic action role-playing game, a valiant warrior named Triton arises to bring tranquility back to Luwanda Island. The MSX variant offers unique tactics for your gaming experience!

Originating from Japan, published by SEIN SOFT back in 1986, this side-scrolling role-playing game places you as the protagonist, Triton, embarking on a journey. Your mission is to vanquish monsters and bring tranquility back to Luwanda Island, which has been under the control of the villainous “Pay-Valusa.

Mainly, Tritorn engages combat with leaps and sword thrusts. By reading the opponent’s actions ahead of time, he delivers a powerful sword blow, and performing this move from a jump doubles the damage, displaying an intricate fighting style. As Tritorn matures, he becomes adept at magic, enabling him to either freeze enemies in their tracks or instantly vanquish them on the spot.

In this action RPG, it’s not solely about vanquishing adversaries. Instead, it also involves solving puzzles. Defeating certain enemies in succession awards players with useful items, and while some puzzles can be tricky, they enrich the gaming experience by adding layers to the gameplay.

This game delivers rapid action sequences, strategic battles, intriguing puzzles, and the ability to master three enchanting magic abilities while playing as Tritorn matures. It provides a deep gaming experience that appeals to fans of action RPGs, making it a suitable choice for both veterans and newcomers alike.

In the MSX (ROM cartridge) version, you’ll encounter more formidable bosses with enhanced attack patterns for the final boss. To progress through later levels, strategies might need to be adjusted compared to those used on other platforms.

As a gamer, I’ve found that this game doesn’t offer a scene selection mode. Instead, the primary gameplay and what seems like a gallery (let’s call it the *Gallery) are only available in Japanese. However, the other menu screens and the “How to play” instructions are provided in English.
