Renowned poker player Doug Polk, who’s known as one of the top heads-up players globally, wagered a sum of $40,000 in exchange for an opportunity to feature on the podcast “Kill Tony.
The comedy podcast “Kill Tony” has long been a favorite among internet users and a regular on YouTube for quite some time. More recently, it started making appearances as special episodes on Netflix.
In this program, less experienced stand-up comics deliver short, one-minute acts on stage, with well-known comedians like Ari Shaffir, Joe Rogan, Tom Segura providing critique and encouragement – occasionally, even popular figures such as Tucker Carlson and Ric Flair may make an appearance.
As an avid fan, I usually just hope for my name to be drawn from the bucket to have a chance at appearing on popular podcasts. But poker pro Doug Polk came up with a unique approach – one that nearly drained his bankroll.
Tony Hinchcliffe beat Poker pro for $20K but loses double or nothing bet
As Tony tells it, he found himself tipsy at a bar when someone informed him that Doug Polk was present. Impulsively, he chose to challenge Doug to a game.
Polk put up $20,000 and received an opportunity from Tony to perform for a minute on Kill Tony. Interestingly, though Tony was tipsy, he managed to win the first round in only 20 minutes.
Yet, Hinchcliffe, showing a sense of confidence, didn’t stop there. With a $20K lead, he proposed a high-stakes challenge to the poker star: double or nothing. This meant that if he won, he would pocket an additional $40K, but at the cost of two scheduled appearances on KT, which Tony had agreed to.
As a gamer, let me tell you, I bagged a whopping $20,000! Then we upped the ante to an even more exciting $40,000 for the next round. Any minute now, he’s going to make his grand appearance on this show. And yes, he took that second game too!
On the 9th of June, Polk took the stage for the first time at Kill Tony’s show, and he left a lasting impression. Both Tony and the audience thought that his performance was the standout act of the evening.
Hinchliffe praised him, acknowledging that those who can make a living playing poker are often living the dream of many. He noted that the thrill you’re seeking is undeniably intense, akin to an exhilarating adrenaline rush, much like being in a critical hand where uncertainty reigns. He affirmed, ‘You’ve got what it takes.’
Polk’s next Kill Tony appearance is scheduled, but the exact date remains undetermined. Given the positive response to his debut, there’s a possibility he might appear in one of the show’s future Netflix specials, considering the poker star’s pursuit of that initial excitement.
