Based on recent updates, it appears that the much-discussed Midnight Sons film is once again under consideration at Marvel Studios. This development not only excites fans who enjoy horror-themed superheroes but could also provide a much-needed boost to a long-stalled Marvel Cinematic Universe project.
The Midnight Sons represent Marvel’s premier supernatural task force – picture the Avengers but with a haunting twist. Debuted in the ’90s, this team assembled some of Marvel’s most enigmatic characters to tackle supernatural perils. Among them are Ghost Rider, Morbius, Doctor Strange, and Blade.
For quite some time, rumors about the Midnight Sons appearing within the Marvel Cinematic Universe have surfaced and disappeared. When Moon Knight debuted in 2022, Oscar Isaac hinted at them during interviews. Following this, the impressive Werewolf by Night special was released, which sparked a horror-themed corner of the MCU to emerge gradually.
Initially, there was only quietness regarding this matter, but now it appears that something may be brewing. According to Hollywood insider Daniel Richtman (also known as DanielRPK), a Midnight Sons film is being developed within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s been whispered that Ghost Rider will spearhead the team, yet there’s another character we’re eagerly awaiting: Blade.
Midnight Sons could save Marvel’s doomed Blade movie
The Midnight Sons project might offer a chance to free Blade, who’s been trapped in development limbo for quite some time within the MCU. To put it mildly, this project has faced more challenges than even Blade’s legendary sword can handle.
Originally slated in 2019 starring Mahershala Ali, the movie was intended to be a significant foundation for Marvel’s Phase 5. However, as we stand in 2025, what we have instead is a series of postponed production timelines, director swaps, and contentious script revisions, causing some to worry that it might never see the light of day.
But that’s where Midnight Sons could be a game-changer.
Instead of struggling to create a standalone Blade movie within the complex Marvel Cinematic Universe, it would be intriguing if they decided to reintroduce the character as part of a team. A horror-themed collaboration could provide Ali with much-deserved limelight without the burden of singlehandedly carrying an entire film. This would be particularly beneficial considering characters like Ghost Rider who could share the dark, action-packed aspects of the storyline.
It’s not only about preserving our reputation; it’s also crucial for moving the reboot out of limbo and fulfilling the commitment Marvel made approximately six years ago.
Or, more casually:
We want to do more than just look good; we aim to get this reboot out of a rut and deliver on Marvel’s long-standing promise from around six years back.
One spectator succinctly expressed their thoughts in response to the announcement about the Midnight Sons, ” Frankly, if they continue to delay a Blade film, it would be wise to introduce him here and also include Black Knight. This way, the post-credits scene would fit seamlessly.
I’ve just heard some exciting news! It seems like my favorite comic book gang, The Midnight Sons, might be making a comeback at Marvel Studios. Apparently, it’s Ghost Rider who’s being tipped to take the helm this time around. Can’t wait to see what transpires! (Source: @DanielRPK)

The scene that appears after the credits, you’ll notice, hinted at Eternals. In this scene, Kit Harington’s character, Dane Whitman, encounters an enigmatic voice, which was later revealed to be Mahershala Ali’s Blade. It was a suggestive hint, but so far, it seems to have led us nowhere.
In a humorous twist, the chaotic filming process made its way into the storyline itself through Wesley Snipes’ cameo as a character resembling his iconic role as Blade, but trapped within an alternate dimension known as The Void, in Deadpool & Wolverine.
He claims that there has only been a single character known as Blade, and there will never be another like him. However, it appears that this statement was made in jest, suggesting that the issue with the reboot of the Marvel movie is the focus on recreating the original rather than developing something fresh and unique.
The Midnight Sons could potentially weave together the intricate storylines from the MCU’s more ominous realms, delivering a long-awaited blend of supernatural characters that horror enthusiasts have been eagerly anticipating. To put it simply: Marvel stands to gain significantly by introducing the Midnight Sons; horror fans are yearning for this development, and Blade, in particular, seems to be in dire need of it.
