In the recent past, Red Dead Redemption 2 was hailed as one of the top games for the last console generation. However, it hasn’t made its way onto any Nintendo systems thus far. But, according to recent reports, this could potentially alter later in 2021. The speculation indicates that not only is Red Dead Redemption 2 being developed for Switch 2, but it might also receive an upgrade for contemporary consoles.
YouTube content creator Nate the Hate was first to announce that the Red Dead Redemption 2 (RDR 2) port for Nintendo Switch 2 is expected to debut concurrently with an enhancement update for Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 versions of the game. Previously, RDR 2 had been playable on these consoles via backwards compatibility. Nate the Hate anticipates that the RDR 2 release will occur on Switch 2 and other platforms either this summer or in the autumn.
Recently, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick expressed his strong faith in the prospect of Switch 2, without revealing any concrete plans about bringing Rockstar’s games onto the platform. Previously, Red Dead Redemption, an original game from Rockstar, was ported to PS4 and Nintendo Switch in 2023, marking its 15th anniversary this year.
There’s been talk about a possible updated version of Grand Theft Auto 4 for current-gen consoles, but nothing official has been announced yet. Originally launched in 2008 for PS3 and Xbox 360, the game also came out on PC later that year. Thanks to backward compatibility, Xbox Series X|S users can play GTA 4, but unfortunately, PlayStation 5 gamers haven’t got a way to replay it as of now.
On May 26, 2026, the highly anticipated collaboration between Take-Two and Rockstar Games, known as Grand Theft Auto 6, is set to launch for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles.
