If you found “Steven Universe” too earthbound, here’s some exciting news! At the Annecy Animation Festival, Rebecca Sugar announced that a spinoff focusing on Lars and his cosmic fusion friends is in development. Unlike past Steven Universe projects, which were on Cartoon Network and/or Max, “Steven Universe: Lars of the Stars” will be streaming on Amazon Prime Video. Sugar expressed her longing for her world and characters, sharing that she can’t wait to share this sequel with you and is grateful for your continued support. Ian Jones-Quartey, a veteran from “Steven Universe,” will also serve as Executive Producer for the show.
Steven Universe: Lars Among the Stars
The series, “Steven Universe: Lars of the Stars,” is set to revolve around Lars Barriga, a character who underwent a remarkable transformation following his stranding in space. Previously known as a sullen teenager residing in Beach City, Lars’s life took an extraordinary turn when he was abducted to the Gem Homeworld. A series of events led him to die, recover, transform into a pink form, and acquire his own gem powers. Since then, Lars has been voyaging through the cosmos with a band of outlaw fusions called the Off Colors. The show is expected to be filled with space-themed activities such as smuggling, piracy, daring escapades, and other interstellar antics. However, it remains to be seen whether this spin-off will evoke tears like the original “Steven Universe” did.
