Dune: Awakening Is Coming To Console, Funcom Confirms As PC Game Puts Up Huge Numbers

Funcom’s Dune: Awakening has now been released for PC play. If you’re pondering whether it will also come out for consoles, let me clarify – while the game has debuted on PC, it won’t be available on console platforms until the year 2026.

2026’s release date for the game isn’t fixed yet, and the consoles it will be on haven’t been officially confirmed, but given past trends, Xbox and PlayStation platforms are likely candidates. As for the Switch 2, its involvement remains uncertain.

The launch of Awakening has taken off successfully on Steam, with impressive outcomes. At this moment, the game priced at $50 holds the position as the best-selling title on the platform and is also ranked among the top 10 most-played games. It has garnered over 135,000 simultaneous players.

Funcom emphasized that Awakening can be purchased for personal ownership on PC via a traditional business approach, often known as “buy-once-own-it.” This release isn’t an early access version but the complete 1.0 launch. There are no recurring subscription costs or microtransactions associated with it.

For $25, you can purchase a season pass that offers an array of content right away, featuring sandworms, hiropteras, kulons, and Muad’Dib creatures. The remaining three DLC packs included in the season pass will be released later this year and in 2026.

The game titled “Awakening” is a multiplayer survival adventure, taking place on the fictional planet Arrakis, inspired by the works of Frank Herbert, notably the latest Dune films directed by Denis Villeneuve. You get to decide whether you’ll side with Atreides or Harkonnen, engaging in missions that have a collective impact on the game world.

As for the movie series, Villeneuve is coming back to make a third Dune movie.
