“Elemental” director Peter Sohn will direct “The Incredibles 3” for Disney and Pixar.
For this new chapter, Brad Bird – who penned and directed both the original 2004 film “The Incredibles” and its 2018 sequel – is no longer the director. It’s unknown why he’s stepped away from directing, but as a seasoned Pixar professional, he will still contribute as a screenwriter and producer.
The movie ‘The Incredibles’ tells the story of a superhero duo, Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl, who strive to settle into an ordinary family life with their three kids in suburbia following the ban on superpowers by the government. The initial film earned $630 million globally at the box office, while its sequel joined Pixar’s most successful releases, making over $1.24 billion. In 2024, Disney revealed plans for a third installment during their D23 Expo in late summer. Craig T. Nelson, Holly Hunter, and Samuel L. Jackson provide the voices for the characters.
Son is primarily recognized for his 2023 creation, “Elemental,” which gradually turned into a successful movie at the box office, earning approximately half a billion dollars worldwide. Throughout his career, he has been a consistent partner with Pixar, contributing in diverse roles to some of their most popular productions, including “The Incredibles” and its sequel, as well as “Finding Nemo,” “Up,” and “Wall-E.
The Hollywood Reporter first reported the news of Sohn’s hiring.
