One player ditched Destiny 2 for Dune Awakening, and they’re likely not alone making the switch

One day remains until the complete launch of Dune: Awakening on PC, yet many can’t contain their excitement. In fact, numerous gamers have already secured the Deluxe or Ultimate editions to begin playing a few days early on June 5th. To give you an idea, the game experienced its highest concurrent player count ever just yesterday with over 117,000 participants. The attention it has garnered is so significant that one individual has even decided to leave Destiny 2 in favor of it.

Against all odds, Dune Awakening is pulling players away from other games

Without a shadow of a doubt, I must admit that “Dune: Awakening” took me by surprise. Given the rocky beta tests and disorganized streamer event, I anticipated a catastrophe rather than one of the top Steam hits in June. The PvP appeared unbalanced, and it seemed like the entire experience was just poorly designed. Frankly, it appeared as though we were headed for another rough launch similar to “Conan Exiles“, which would gradually improve over time.

To put it straightforwardly, there were some initial setbacks during the debut. We encountered server problems, an “outdated client” error cropped up, and a wave of early unfavorable reviews came in. However, despite these initial hurdles, Dune: Awakening is currently garnering a robust “Very Positive” response from the audience, and it’s gaining significant popularity.

One Reddit user has announced they’re quitting Destiny 2 to play Dune: Awakening instead. They’ve gone so far as to fully remove Destiny 2 from their system in order to devote themselves entirely to this new game. It’s worth noting that they’re certainly not the only ones – numerous players have expressed similar sentiments and commented accordingly.

The unique character of Destiny seems to have faded away, yet I plan to return occasionally for Player versus Player (PvP) engagements. Before the end of the week, I need to complete three competitive matches, after which I’ll dive back into Dune for my primary looting and exploration.

In a nutshell, “Destiny 2” deviates from the typical survival MMORPG genre as seen in “Dune: Awakening“. I can grasp their comparison. Initially, “Destiny 2” was impressive, but over time it appears that it’s been managed poorly. The narrative quality has diminished, and microtransactions have taken precedence. Despite the core gameplay still being enjoyable, Bungie seems to prioritize monetization over community trust. Remarkably, they seem to address shop issues faster than major game-breaking bugs.

In contrast to Dune: Awakening, this game appears to offer an incredibly immersive experience with a world that seems both dense and authentic. It appears to be built on a sturdy base, offers depth, and presents a challenging learning curve that promises to be tough but ultimately fulfilling. I only hope it won’t turn out to be one of those games where the initial excitement fades quickly.
