The Beast of Reincarnation is a fresh action RPG that Game Freak, renowned for their extensive management of the popular Pokémon series, is currently working on developing.

At Microsoft’s Xbox Game Showcase in 2025, the game titled “Beast of Reincarnation” was unveiled, and this isn’t the first significant non-Pokemon project Game Freak has tackled; however, it appears to be their most challenging endeavor so far.

In the ruins of post-apocalyptic Japan, you’ll embark on a solo quest starring Emma, a woman who is joined on her mission to restore mankind by her faithful dog, Koo.

Beast of Reincarnation release window

The “Reincarnation Beast” game is planned for a 2026 launch, but details beyond this are scarce. It remains uncertain if the RPG will be rolled out on all compatible platforms at the same time.

What we do know, however, is that the RPG will be available on Xbox Game Pass.

Platforms

Beast of Reincarnation will be available on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC (via Steam).

It’s quite unexpected that despite Game Freak’s lengthy partnership with Nintendo, they haven’t yet announced a Switch 2 edition. However, the absence of an announcement doesn’t automatically mean there won’t be one eventually.

So far, only one trailer showcasing various elements of both storytelling and gameplay has been unveiled at Microsoft’s 2025 Xbox Game Showcase on June 8th.

Gameplay & Story details

In a post-apocalyptic Japan of the year 4026, as humanity faces imminent annihilation, the story of Beast of Reincarnation unfolds. In the trailer, a mysterious figure is seen addressing what appears to be an infant named Emma, saying, “By the year 4026, humanity is on the brink of extinction.

Emma is portrayed as the final beacon of humanity and someone who has been labeled as a “Blighted One” or outcast. So far, Game Freak hasn’t provided much detail about these plot elements. However, it’s known that Emma will embark on a journey with her animal companion Koo, traversing a foreboding world where the landscape changes continuously. This world features complex and challenging combat encounters.

In the unveiling trailer, you can catch a glimpse of some intricate fighting techniques. These include combos, blocking attacks (or parrying), and moving through the environment creatively. This enables Emma to surprise her adversaries by approaching from high ground.

As Emma’s adventure unfolds, she’ll discover uncommon abilities, one of which seems to be the vine-like gadget encircling her arm, enabling her to grapple enemies from a distance. At present, the only weapon we’ve observed Emma using is a katana; it remains unclear if she will have access to other types of weapons in the future.
