It’s been reported that the Nintendo Switch 2 achieved unprecedented sales success during its debut, surpassing 3 million unit sales within just 24 hours of its release.
According to well-respected content producer Nintendo Prime, the information, if verified, suggests that the Switch 2 could achieve unparalleled success in the market and significantly outpace rival systems.
According to Nintendo Prime’s announcement on June 6, it’s been reported by three separate sources that Nintendo has sold more than 3 million Switch 2 units worldwide. Moreover, he noted that these figures don’t account for any sales made on that day or during the subsequent weekend.
If the numbers given are accurate, the launch sales of Nintendo Switch 2 could significantly outshine the initial sales of Sony’s PlayStation 4, which managed to sell more than a million units within the same timeframe upon its release in 2013.
If the rate of sale for Switch 2 continues as it is, it’s likely to exceed the number of units sold by both the PS4 and PS5 within their first two months after launch. This figure is approximately 4.5 million units, as per Prime’s estimates.
24-hour launch sale announcement:
It’s been confirmed by three separate sources that Nintendo has sold more than 3 million units of the Switch 2 worldwide. This number doesn’t include any sales made today or during the rest of the weekend.
To put this into context, no other console has approached these sales figures in such a short time frame.

Comparison to Nintendo Switch
Finding 24-hour sales figures for the initial Nintendo Switch can be challenging, but Nintendo revealed that they managed to sell approximately 2.74 million units within the first month of launch, as stated in their year-end 2016 financial report.
If the Switch 2 manages to sell over 3 million units within a day, it would significantly outperform both its predecessor and all consoles launched by competitors by a substantial amount. As of March 2025, the original Switch has already sold more than 152 million units worldwide.
The Nintendo Switch ranks as the third most popular gaming console ever, following the Nintendo DS and PlayStation 2. It remains uncertain whether the upcoming Switch 2 will unseat the PlayStation 2, but initial indications suggest that Nintendo’s latest device could be their biggest success yet.
