At the Xbox Summer Showcase during Summer Game Fest 2025, it was revealed by Team Meat that Super Meat Boy will be coming back. However, in contrast to its previous iterations, this hardcore indie platformer is transitioning into a 3D experience with Super Meat Boy 3D.
The trailer for the new game kicks off with a computer-generated scene depicting a green pipe, which seems like a witty reference to Super Mario. Following this, our main character, who looks more like meat than a typical hero, appears on screen. The gameplay segments shown later seem to recall the bright color schemes and isometric 3D view of Super Mario 3D World, though they appear to be much tougher, with hazardous elements such as thorns and circular saws. Additionally, it seems that our meaty protagonist will have the ability to create copies of himself, similar to the cherry item featured in Super Mario 3D World.
This new installment signifies the resumption of the series, following Super Meat Boy Forever from 2020 that had a more divided reaction than its initial release. Notably, co-creator Edmund McMillen did not return for this sequel. The development team behind Super Meat Boy 3D includes Team Meat, Sluggerfly, and Head Up.
3D version of Super Meat Boy is slated for launch in the year 2026 across several platforms: Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and personal computers (PC). It can be played on PC through Xbox PC, Steam, and Epic Games Store. Additionally, it will be accessible on day one through Xbox Game Pass.
