It’s evident that the standout Star Wars character from 2025 has emerged, yet it remains uncertain if the franchise will fully capitalize on her potential. Generally, the most favored Star Wars characters are those who have been featured in multiple significant films or series. Nevertheless, there are characters who enjoy widespread adoration despite having less screen time compared to figures like Luke or Anakin Skywalker, thanks to their exceptional portrayals in well-crafted projects such as the acclaimed Star Wars TV series, Andor.
By the finale of “Andor” season 2, it had firmly established itself as the most powerful addition to the “Star Wars” franchise. A key reason for this was the captivating ensemble of characters in “Andor” season 2, featuring heroes like Cassian, leaders such as Luthen Rael, and pivotal rebels like Kleya, who all left a lasting impression as some of the most intriguing figures within the “Star Wars” universe. Among these characters, one “Star Wars” personality from “Andor” truly shone and has secured her place as the top character of 2025, in my opinion. Unfortunately, I have concerns about how the future of the franchise might squander her potential.
Mon Mothma Is The Best Star Wars Character Of 2025
The Senator Was A Remarkable Screen Presence In Andor’s Two Seasons
In the series called Andor, Mon Mothma was portrayed as a relatively undeveloped character, although she had some iconic moments, within the Rebel Alliance of Star Wars. Prior to Andor, her roles in Return of the Jedi, the notorious deleted scene from Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, her brief appearance in Rogue One, and an episode of Star Wars Rebels gave her recognition, but at a level comparable to other secondary Star Wars heroes. However, after the release of Andor, this perception has shifted.
Through the collaborative work of Tony Gilroy, his writing team, and Genevieve O’Reilly, the character of Mon Mothma in Andor has become one of the most remarkable figures in the entire Star Wars franchise. The complexity of Mon’s journey in Andor was surprising yet captivating. In 2025, season 2 of Andor expanded upon her extraordinary story from the first season, delving deeper into her growing frustration with the Empire’s brutal actions. The exceptional episodes 7-9 of Andor season 2 culminated this tension in a powerful manner, further cementing Mon Mothma as the standout character of 2025 within the Star Wars universe.
Mon Mothma Perfectly Fits Star Wars’ New Republic Timeline
Mon Would Fit The Future Of Star Wars
As a dedicated cinephile, I am thrilled about the potential of the Star Wars franchise in 2025 and beyond, given the compelling portrayal of Mon Mothma we’ve seen lately. The upcoming Star Wars films, such as The Mandalorian and Grogu or any other projects by Dave Filoni set in the New Republic era, hold immense promise. Moreover, various Star Wars TV shows scheduled for release in a similar timeline seem tailor-made for Mon Mothma’s character, making her return all the more exciting.
In the storyline of the “Star Wars” universe, Mon Mothma serves as the Chancellor of the New Republic. This was established in the first season of “Ahsoka”, where Genevieve O’Reilly portrayed the character during a hearing for New Republic officials. Following the conclusion of “Ahsoka” season 1, with Grand Admiral Thrawn reappearing in the “Star Wars” galaxy aiming to restore the Empire, it seems plausible that the New Republic would become increasingly engaged in the struggle against him. Given Mon Mothma’s history of resisting Imperial rule, her role within the “Star Wars” saga appears particularly fitting.
Will Star Wars’ Future Waste The Potential Mon Mothma Showed In 2025?
Mon’s Strengths May Be Confined To Andor
As a devoted fan, I must admit that while Mon Mothma’s history aligns seamlessly with the New Republic timeline, it seems plausible that her full potential may not be fully explored moving forward. A significant factor contributing to Mon’s character evolution was the exceptional writing of Tony Gilroy and his team on the series Andor. This show stands out from other Star Wars properties due to its capacity for mature, intricate storytelling, focusing intensely on character development rather than the more action-packed, adventure-driven narratives prevalent in typical Star Wars TV.
Ever since I first saw Mon on screen, she’s been a captivating character that left me eager for more. However, it’s undeniable that her franchise-topping status post-2025 is largely due to the exceptional portrayal of her character in Andor, penned by Tony Gilroy and the show’s talented team of writers. As we move forward with the Star Wars universe, Mon’s story will be taken up by other filmmakers. While I have immense respect for the creative prowess of Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni in the realm of Star Wars, none can delve into the complexities of Star Wars politics quite like Gilroy does.
Given the circumstances, it seems probable that although Mon Mothma might show up in season 2 of Ahsoka, she probably won’t receive the same level of attention as she did in Andor. Additionally, The Mandalorian and Grogu were filmed before Andor season 2 garnered such tremendous success, which could explain why O’Reilly wasn’t included, making Mon Mothma less relevant to the story. Consequently, there are concerns that Star Wars may not fully utilize Mon Mothma’s great potential after 2025.
There Is Still Time For Star Wars To Capitalize On Mon Mothma’s Andor Success
The Franchise Has Even More Reason To Do So After Andor Season 2
Despite all that has been expressed, there remains a possibility for Star Wars to incorporate Mon Mothma into the New Republic timeline following her impressive portrayal in Andor. While Mon’s character might not reach its full potential in The Mandalorian or Ahsoka, neither series is anticipated to conclude the New Republic storyline. Future Star Wars TV shows may be announced to continue from Ahsoka season 2, with Dave Filoni’s Mandalorian-era film still set to release as planned.
After observing the positive response to Mon Mothma’s portrayal in Andor, future New Republic stories might want to incorporate her more prominently. If The Mandalorian and Grogu failed to capitalize on this opportunity, Filoni’s upcoming movie might suffer the same fate. Although Filoni’s writing for Mon in Ahsoka was not as effective as Gilroy’s in Andor, he could strive to achieve a similar tone in Ahsoka season 3 or other New Republic stories. Essentially, Star Wars hasn’t entirely missed the boat on leveraging its top character of 2025 moving forward, and I only hope the franchise doesn’t squander this possibility.
