Beware: Spoilers for the first episode of Resident Alien season 4 titled “Prisoners” reveal that the events of the finale, “Homecoming,” have left the characters in a vulnerable state, and this new episode continues some ongoing storylines while introducing fresh developments.
In the fourth season of “Resident Alien,” most of the cast remains consistent, with just a handful of new characters appearing in the episode titled “Prisoners.” Clancy Brown reprises his role from the end of season 3, lending his voice to the Mantid. However, the show’s latest antagonist is brought to life by Alan Tudyk on screen, who also directs the premiere of season 4. Despite some production changes like moving from SyFy to USA Network, “Resident Alien” hasn’t skipped a beat since “Homecoming,” and in front of the camera, season 4 begins with a bang.
9. Harry Vanderpeigle Was Trapped Aboard The Greys’ Moon Ship For 1 Month
Resident Alien season 3 ended with Harry as a prisoner
In the final episode of season 3, Harry was found onboard the Grey’s moon ship, accompanied by Bridget in “Homecoming.” Initially, it seemed like the Mantid had tricked Harry into captivity, a suspicion that was further solidified at the end of the season. However, a prelude scene in “Prisoners” revealed the truth. Casually, all the Mantid needed to do was disguise himself as Harry’s usual pizza delivery person and offer deceptive promises about pepperoni.
Harry stayed aboard the Greys’ spaceship for a month before managing to flee. During this period, the Mantid effectively integrated himself into Harry’s daily routine, leading everyone to believe that Harry was still present and merely acting strangely. Since Harry has always been somewhat eccentric, his recent peculiarities are often chalked up to the assumption that he’s grieving for Bridget.
8. Alan Tudyk’s Sci-Fi Dramedy Finally Has A Proper Grey Alien Character
Bruce is a breath of fresh air after so many nameless Greys
As a devoted fan, I’ve been captivated by the enigmatic Grey Aliens in “Resident Alien” since its debut. However, these beings have remained faceless and nameless until now. In the episode titled “Prisoners”, we meet Bruce, voiced brilliantly by Jinkx Monsoon, who is no stranger to sci-fi roles following her work on Doctor Who in 2024. What sets Bruce apart is his profound fascination with Earth and its inhabitants. Interestingly, this longing for humanity’s homeworld becomes an integral part of Harry’s escape strategy, subtly guided by Robert (Paul Piaskowski).
I’ve always found Bruce, since his debut, to be an unstoppable source of laughter. Previously, only George Takei’s Grey Alien had some character growth, but it was quite minimal. Now, with the start of season 4, it seems like Resident Alien is gearing up to give Bruce a more substantial role. The final scene of “Prisoners” hints at this, as we see Bruce and Robert gazing upon a sparkling human cityscape, eager to delve deeper into the human world together.
7. Sheriff Mike Didn’t Believe What He Saw With His Own Two Eyes In The Resident Alien Season 3 Finale
Mike starts Resident Alien season 4 on medical leave
Throughout seasons 1-3 of “Resident Alien,” Corey Reynolds’ character, Sheriff Mike Thompson, was a firm non-believer in extraterrestrial life. However, in “Homecoming,” he was presented with what appeared to be undeniable evidence – he even encountered and knocked out a Grey alien at the season 3 finale. In “Prisoners,” it’s revealed that Mike intended to show this alien to his deputy, Liv Baker (Elizabeth Bowen). Unfortunately, by the time Mike reached Liv, the unconscious Grey had mysteriously disappeared, leaving Mike to question whether he had been experiencing hallucinations.
Mike’s puzzling incident led to his temporary withdrawal from work, feeling incapable of safeguarding the citizens of Patience because he thought he had been hallucinating. It’s not surprising that Mike remains skeptical about extraterrestrial life after his Grey encounter in “Homecoming,” but it’s also reasonable for him to be disturbed by the experience. Fortunately, by the end of “Prisoners,” Liv manages to convince Mike to return to work, introducing a crucial ally in the battle against the Greys – let’s just hope it’s not Bruce!
6. Max & Sahar Escaped From The Mantid In Hilariously Easy Fashion At The End Of Resident Alien Season 3
Sahar gives a simple but effective explanation for Max’s outburst
Among the few characters from “Resident Alien,” Max Hawthorne, created by Judah Prehn, possesses the unique ability to perceive through an extraterrestrial’s disguise at a molecular level. While others might be deceived by their human appearance, Max remains undeceived. At the climax of season 3, when he discerned the Mantid’s Harry disguise, Max emitted a loud scream that left it uncertain as to how both he and Sahar (Gracelyn Awad Rinke) managed to evade the ensuing chaos unscathed.
In keeping with the quirky style of “Resident Alien,” the episode “Prisoners” cleverly handles Max’s anger issue through a humorous, offhand comment. It turns out in the first episode of season 4 that Sahar managed to diffuse the situation by telling the Mantid that Max acted as he did because he had “accidentally stepped on a bee.” I was pleasantly surprised that the series didn’t start with Max and Sahar being captured by the Mantid, but instead found an amusing way to swiftly resolve the conflict.
5. Peter “The Alien Tracker” Bach Was Even More Heavily Altered Than It Seems (& He’s Incapacitated)
Terry O’Quinn’s Resident Alien character is in need of repairs
General MacCallister (Linda Hamilton) and her group significantly enhanced Terry O’Quinn’s character, Peter Bach, using government technology to turn him into a lethal tool against the Greys. However, they were unaware that a significant part of Peter’s consciousness survived, as he was thought to be deceased when he went through the procedure. Following his reclamation of independence in “Homecoming” and escaping his government controllers, the story resumes with Peter hiding in a cave atop a mountain in “Prisoners”.
“I wish I had a stomach.”
– Peter Bach in Resident Alien season 4, episode 1, “Prisoners.”
Liv has been providing Peter with supplies, thinking he was still in need of nourishment to stay alive. However, Peter mentioned incidentally that he no longer possesses a stomach following his ingestion and expulsion of Liv’s homemade fried chicken. Therefore, it appears the taste of comfort food serves more as emotional support rather than physical sustenance. Additionally, Peter’s artificial legs have sustained damage, and both him and Liv are working to find a solution for their repair, allowing him to walk once more.
4. Resident Alien Season 4’s Premiere Reveals Asta & Joseph Are Hooking Up
The unlikely romantic pairing is picking things back up after Resident Alien season 3
In the third season of Resident Alien, Enver Gjokaj’s character, Joseph Quinn, had a short-lived, albeit fictitious, romantic entanglement with Sara Tomko’s character, Asta Twelvetrees. However, when both characters unveil their hidden agendas, it appears that any prospect of a genuine relationship seems to fade away. The unexpected twist in “Prisoners” offers a glimmer of hope, suggesting that Joseph and Asta might still have a chance for a future together.
At present, their relationship appears primarily physical between Asta and D’arcy Bloom (Alice Wetterlund), with Asta appearing awkward that she knows about their encounters. Contrastingly, in the episode “Prisoners,” Joseph is depicted purchasing flowers following a hasty exit from Asta’s residence, suggesting that there may be deeper feelings developing in their blossoming romance, though we’ll have to wait and see.
3. D’arcy Never Returned Ben & Kate’s Baby After Rescuing Her From The Greys
The Hawthorne baby is being hidden for her own safety
Following a close call where she nearly made a selfless move to halt the Greys in “Resident Alien” season 3, D’arcy ultimately emerged as one of the mission’s most prominent heroes by rescuing Ben and Kate’s baby from the spaceship. Given the circumstances, it would be natural to assume that D’arcy would immediately return the baby to its parents upon her return to Earth. However, “Prisoners” offers a surprising twist: D’arsy didn’t actually hand the baby back to her parents, as she thought keeping the child, whom she named Daisy, away from a mother who was still being abducted would be safer for the infant.
Initially, D’arcy’s reasoning seems valid, supported by the incident where Kate was unknowingly contacted by the Greys. However, D’arcy begins to act imprudently, hiding her scheme from the Hawthornes, even going so far as to bring her to work and potentially be seen by her biological parents. Recognizing that the child would thrive away from the Hawthornes’ immediate reach, who might try to reclaim her if they spotted her, D’arcy makes the decision to place her in the care of a Native American reserve for safety. Yet, she grapples with the emotional toll of separation.
2. The Mantid’s Goal Is To Procreate In Resident Alien Season 4
Asta is forced to withstand the Mantid’s humorous advances
In “Homecoming,” the Mantid’s motivations aren’t thoroughly explored, leaving the impression that his primary goal is consuming humans. However, the episode “Prisoners” provides a clearer picture. With Clancy Brown and Tudyk taking turns narrating, the Mantid discloses his desire to reproduce, explaining that reproducing on Earth with an unaware human would be much simpler compared to other planets.
In this scenario, the Mantid views Asta as a possible mate for reproduction, leading to an amusing courtship attempt that ultimately ends with her swift departure. While the humor of the situation is evident, it seems unlikely that a human could endure giving birth to numerous Mantid offspring at once, as the body serves merely as a container for a “brood sack.” Despite this, it’s worth noting that mating with a human would offer the Mantid a higher chance of survival compared to breeding with another Mantid, as his head might be bitten off after mating in that case.
1. Harry Is Stuck In Human Form In Resident Alien Season 4, Episode 1
Resident Alien season 4’s trailer hints at the reason why
In the series Resident Alien, although Harry typically seems human to other characters, his genuine form is significantly distinct, and he effortlessly switches between the two. However, during “Prisoners,” when Harry tried to transform into his alien form for a fight with the Mantid, things didn’t go as planned – instead, he stood there looking awkward while everyone watched. Consequently, the battle was avoided, and Max had to use a tazer on the Mantid so that they, Sahar, Harry, and Asta could escape safely.
The TV show “Resident Alien” concludes without revealing why Harry is unable to transform back into his alien form, but it appears this inability might have originated during his imprisonment by the Greys. The upcoming season 4 hints at this possibility. This situation, arising from Harry’s predicament, leads to an intriguing twist: Max can no longer perceive Tudyk’s character in his alien form and fails to recognize him when he reappears on Earth at the end of “Resident Alien” season 4 premiere.
