In the year following “The Acolyte” premiere, an intriguing similarity between “The Stranger” and Ahsoka Tano has been substantiated within the Star Wars universe. In the 2024 Star Wars series, Qimir, also known as The Stranger, was portrayed by Manny Jacinto, a user of the dark side, on the hunt for a new apprentice to mentor. Yet, it’s now been verified that he shares a significant reflection with Ahsoka in one key aspect (though further connections may exist).
Lucasfilm Publishing is scheduled to publish “Star Wars: The Acolyte: The Visual Guide” by Pablo Hidalgo later this month, but sneak peeks at the book have already been shared. Among these previews is a page focusing on The Acolyte’s “Stranger”, and it has been confirmed that his combat style shares a significant resemblance with Ahsoka Tano’s in one key aspect.
The Stranger’s Second Lightsaber Is A Shoto Blade, The Same Kind Of Weapon As Ahsoka
The Shorter Saber Revealed When Qimir Killed Jecki Lon
In the previews for Star Wars: The Acolyte, a detailed analysis is provided about The Stranger’s distinctive lightsaber. Throughout episode 5 of The Acolyte, The Stranger managed to overpower several Jedi Knights. This was largely due to his helmet and gauntlet, crafted from the rare mineral cortosis, which temporarily disables lightsabers upon touch. However, it wasn’t until the climax of the battle against Master Sol’s apprentice Jecki Lon that The Stranger revealed a hidden mechanism in his lightsaber.
As Jecki and The Stranger clashed swords, an unexpected twist occurred when the lower part of The Stranger’s lightsaber separated from the upper, revealing a concealed second blade. This secret weapon caught Jecki off guard, allowing The Strander to repeatedly pierce him with it, ultimately leading to his demise. Interestingly, this hidden blade resembles the shoto-style lightsaber, much like the one wielded by Ahsoka Tano in addition to her larger blade. This information comes from sneak peeks of the upcoming Acolyte visual guide.
This Explains Some Similarities Between Ahsoka’s Fighting Style & The Stranger’s
Similar Stances And Styles
It’s plausible that the similarities in The Stranger’s fighting positions to those of Ahsoka, particularly her appearances in The Mandalorian and her 2023 series, stem from their shared use of a shoto saber. This is more convincing if The Stranger’s combat style incorporates Jar’Kai, a lightsaber technique that forms a significant aspect of Ahsoka’s fighting style in combination with Djem So. While some Jedi have been observed to dual-wield, not many employ both a full-sized and a shoto lightsaber concurrently, making the preference for these weapons by Ahsoka and The Stranger relatively unique among lightsaber users, regardless of their alignment.
It’s important to mention that at the end of The Acolyte, it was unveiled that The Stranger had been a student of Vernestra Rwoh in the Jedi Order before he departed. Later interviews following The Acolyte’s cancellation revealed that The Stranger might have also been trained in the dark side by Darth Plagueis prior to leaving him too. So, it could be that Qimir was initially taught Jar’Kai as a Jedi, but later, under his new master’s influence, he developed a more distinct style of fighting, relying on deception and his Sith weapon.
Are There Even More Parallels Between The Stranger & Ahsoka?
“I Have No Name…”
It’s worth pointing out that The Acolyte suggests The Stranger doesn’t view himself as a Sith. This could mean he has chosen to stand apart from both the Jedi and the Sith, preferring to use his Force abilities according to his own discretion. However, there’s also a possibility that The Stranger adheres to the Rule of Two, considering Plagueis is depicted observing both The Stranger and Osha towards the end of the series.
Since The Stranger seems to be searching for a disciple similar to himself, it appears plausible that he shares Ahsoka’s past as a FORMER Sith – an individual who departed from his master. This parallel only strengthens the idea of The Stranger serving as a dark reflection of Ahsoka, who had distanced herself from the Jedi Order for years and did not identify with being a Jedi. Fingers crossed that Qimir’s storyline, known as The Stranger, will continue to unfold, regardless of The Acolyte’s cancellation.
