Resident Evil 9 Gets A Sort-Of Mention At Summer Game Fest

At Summer Game Fest 2025, Capcom deceived Resident Evil enthusiasts by initially hinting at future details about an upcoming Resident Evil game and later revealing the trailer for the next installment of the survival-horror series, titled Resident Evil Requiem, as a surprise finale.

Capcom also revealed the release date for the game: February 27, 2026. Check out the trailer below.

During the program earlier, Capcom recognized the “most recent Resident Evil title” and celebrated the 30th anniversary of Resident Evil. However, they requested that fans be patient for further details about the game. In a brief video clip, Resident Evil executive producer Jun Takeuchi expressed gratitude towards fans for their unwavering loyalty.

Regarding the recently anticipated Resident Evil game… Hold tight a moment longer, it’s almost ready – simply one brief instant!

As a gamer, I was thrilled to see numerous iconic scenes from the Resident Evil franchise in the video. There was the “Welcome to Raccoon City” sign, a typewriter from the Raccoon City Police Department, a detailed map of the city, and even a shot of Lady Dimitrescu, the captivating villain from Resident Evil Village. To top it off, Maggie Robertson, the voice behind Dimitrescu, gave a chilling rendition of “Happy Birthday” that sent shivers down my spine.

Previously, Capcom unveiled during their 2024 event that the upcoming Resident Evil game was in production – hinted earlier in an April post celebrating Resident Evil 4’s sales milestone. The project is being headed by Koshi Nakanishi, who has been involved with various Resident Evil games throughout his career, and notably directed Resident Evil 7, a title often recognized as a significant shift for the series.

Last year, Nakanishi shared that coming up with the direction for a new Resident Evil game following RE7 was quite challenging. However, he managed to find an idea that genuinely feels significant.

Further remakes of the Resident Evil series are planned, and a fresh attempt at bringing this franchise to the big screen is being initiated in its initial stages. The upcoming Resident Evil movie will be directed by Zach Cregger, known for “Barbarian”, with a tentative release date set for September 18, 2026.
