Tarantino’s Cult Classic Reservoir Dogs Now Streaming on Paramount+

It’s widely believed that he will be remembered as one of the greatest filmmakers in history due to his two Oscar wins for movies like “Django Unchained” and “Pulp Fiction.” His skill as a storyteller has been proven time and again, and now you can watch one of his earliest masterpieces, the 1992 crime classic “Reservoir Dogs,” on Paramount+.

In “Reservoir Dogs,” a crew of robbers adopt nicknames for their operation, planning to steal diamonds. However, chaos ensues when it’s discovered that one member is an undercover cop. The movie features actors like Harvey Keitel as Mr. White, Tim Roth as Mr. Orange, Michael Madsen as Mr. Blonde, Edward Bunker as Mr. Blue, and Steve Buscemi as Mr. Pink. Quentin Tarantino, the writer and director, takes on the role of Mr. Brown in this film.

The Film Has Become a Cult Classic

Initially, Reservoir Dogs didn’t bring in much at the box office with just $2.9 million earnings, despite its budget of $1.2 million. However, this Quentin Tarantino masterpiece has since become a cult favorite, earning rave reviews from both critics and audiences. It boasts an impressive 90% score on Rotten Tomatoes among critics and an outstanding 94% approval rating among viewers.

Steve Buscemi Almost Wasn’t Mr. Pink

In the role of Mr. Pink, Buscemi delivered an unforgettable performance. Interestingly, Tarantino originally intended to play this character himself, but upon hearing Buscemi’s audition, he was so impressed that he decided Buscemi was perfect for the part instead.

In a prior interview, Buscemi expressed that his character as Mr. Pink in an earlier film (Reservoir Dogs) opened up the opportunity for him to collaborate with Tarantino again in 1995’s Pulp Fiction. He found it fitting that since Mr. Pink was stingy and didn’t like to tip, he wound up playing a waiter in his next film with Tarantino. In fact, Buscemi mused that perhaps Mr. Pink managed to escape in Reservoir Dogs, and he’s disguised as the Buddy Holly waiter, still receiving poor tips. That, according to him, was the destiny of his character.

Two Hollywood Stars Auditioned for Reservoir Dogs

In the movie “Reservoir Dogs,” it wasn’t just Buscemi who was cast differently; originally, the role that went to Tim Roth was intended for David Duchovny. However, Duchovny shared that not getting the part from Tarantino wasn’t entirely disappointing. He said, “I didn’t get selected for the role,” but then added that Tarantino praised his work, stating, “I really appreciate what you do. I’m just unsure if I want you to do it in my film.” Duchovny considered this non-selection as “the best rejection I ever received in my life.
