Due to its more powerful components, the Switch 2 has significantly boosted the performance of many games originally designed for the Switch 1, even though it didn’t receive any formal update for this newer model.
At last, Nintendo unveiled the long-awaited successor, the Switch 2, and along with it came several enhancements to some fan-favorite titles from the first console.
However, let’s not forget about the less popular games as well. As per findings by Digital Foundry and many others on social media, the improved specifications of the new device indeed enhance performance for several underperforming titles on the Nintendo Switch 1.
Digital Foundry reports that one of the previously poorly performing games on its platform, Batman Arkham Knight, has seen significant enhancements in performance alongside titles such as The Witcher 3. Additionally, other developers have managed to reduce load times in games like Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.
Switch 2 automatically makes some Switch 1 games better
In 2023, when Arkham Knight was released for the Nintendo Switch, it had dismal performance on this platform. In fact, Digital Foundry labeled it as the “most poorly performing software” they’ve ever assessed in their reviews.
On the other hand, launching the game on the Switch 2 demonstrates a significant boost in frames per second (FPS), as indicated by their tests. The video clearly shows that this latest model provides a consistent 30 FPS, which is a substantial improvement over the unpredictable performance of the original device.
“They noted that the Switch 2 significantly resolves all its performance problems, often increasing the frame rate by twice as much. In essence, games played on the original Switch perform better when played on the updated Switch 2.”
Not just Batman’s game, The Witcher 3 too has experienced a significant boost in performance. It consistently maintains a steady frame rate of 30 FPS during gameplay without noticeable drops.
While not all enhancements primarily target frame rate, it’s worth noting that some games show significant improvements in other areas. For instance, Animal Crossing: New Horizons boasts improved load times, with a notable reduction of up to 30 seconds in certain instances. Similarly, Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl (BDSP) have faster load times on the Switch 2, specifically loading 13 seconds quicker, which facilitates easier Shiny hunting for starter Pokemon.
