As soon as you set foot in Arrakis during Dune: Awakening, you’re always mindful of your water supply. The gauge on the left corner of your screen is relentless, just like the world around it, and maintaining adequate hydration for your character becomes a priority for much of the initial gameplay.
In Dune: Awakening, your options for staying hydrated are quite scarce initially. The dew plants can provide a little hydration, but you’ll need to collect substantial amounts of water and eventually even blood, as the harsh desert landscape of Arrakis demands a full reservoir to prevent your character from perishing due to dehydration.
To see the best ways to get water and blood in Dune: Awakening, take a look at the guide below.
How to get more water in Dune: Awakening
As a game newbie diving into Dune: Awakening, I’ve found myself needing to stick close to those dew plants to fulfill my thirst throughout my initial missions. It seems these dew plants are the only reliable source of hydration in this harsh world, and I can’t seem to move too far from them just yet.
In the expanse of the desert of Arrakis, you’ll often spot dew-covered plants clinging to numerous rocky outcrops. Simply traverse around these rocks until you locate a small cluster of these dew plants, extract water from them, and then proceed with your ongoing activity. Previously discussed, utilizing dew plants can only fill the initial section of your hydration gauge, so it’s essential to find a more permanent water source as soon as possible.
When dew is absent, there are other ways to quench your thirst, which we will discuss later on. But for now, let’s focus on finding water when it isn’t raining down as dew on leaves.
In Dune: Awakening, the main source of obtaining water is by creating the Stillsuit, a piece of armor. Once you’ve accomplished certain missions and constructed a Fabricator at your base, you can craft this suit. The primary material for crafting the Stillsuit is Micro-sandwich Fabric, which you can either find in scavenger camp chests or buy from traders.
With the Stillsuit equipped, you’ll be able to generate water passively as you traverse the globe. The more energy you exert, the more water will be produced. To consume this generated water, locate the button next to your hydration gauge on the left side of the screen (F key on PC by default). Keep in mind that the water from the Stillsuit is not a reliable means of maintaining permanent hydration, but rather serves as an ongoing water source.
As an ardent player, I’ve found a long-term strategy for you: Advance in Dune: Awakening until you can fabricate a Windtrap or Moisture Harvester at your base. These essential base structures can be developed and built once you’ve ventured to the Griffin’s Research Tradepost, completed the subsequent missions, and returned home.
These two things naturally generate water for your base and let you save some for later, so you’ll always have access to water as long as you frequent your base regularly.
It can be somewhat inconvenient when you need to keep returning to your base if you want to explore Arrakis more freely. Fortunately, you have the option of building a Dew Reaper. Once you’ve acquired and crafted the Hajra Literjon Mk1 blueprint at Griffin’s Research Tradepost, this feature becomes available. The Dew Reaper enables you to gather dew from plants and subsequently store the collected water within the Hajra Literjon Mk1, which functions as a portable water container.
In Dune: Awakening, once you’ve accomplished around the initial 10 missions, you’ll consistently have a water source among the Dew Reaper and Hajra Literjon Mk1, Windtrap and Moisture Harvester, or the Stillsuit.
How to get blood in Dune: Awakening
In Dune: Awakening, your most effective methods for staying hydrated involve gathering plants with dew on them and obtaining a more reliable water source. However, an unconventional yet viable option is to collect and drink blood. Initially, you can manufacture a Blood Extractor and Blood Packs. The extractor permits you to draw blood from slain enemies, while the Blood Packs serve as containers for the harvested blood. Both items become available to you within the initial five missions of Dune: Awakening.
In the game Dune: Awakening, consuming blood is an effective method for maintaining hydration, however, you’ll need to regularly locate hostile characters to sustain this hydration supply. The most efficient approach to discover these adversaries involves seeking out scavenger camps. By examining your map and zooming in on various icons, you can pinpoint the positions of these camps. Larger bases indicated on the map contain more enemies, but they are also significantly tougher to conquer, as they are armed with multiple weapons and protective shields, and will attack immediately upon spotting you. In addition to enemies, scavenger camps provide valuable resources such as Scrap Metal and Fuel Cells.
To stay hydrated in Dune: Awakening, you’ll need to find hostile characters regularly. You can locate these enemies at scavenger camps, which are shown on your map. Larger bases have more enemies but they are harder to defeat because they carry multiple weapons and shields and attack immediately. However, these camps also offer valuable resources like Scrap Metal and Fuel Cells.
Every time you defeat an adversary, quickly grab your Blood Extractor device, press the firing button, and your character will draw their blood into a usable Blood Pack. Each enemy’s blood extraction rewards you with 1,000 milliliters of blood, while each Blood Pack can hold up to 3,000 milliliters. One full Blood Pack nearly fills up your hydration gauge, so using it all will get you close to being fully hydrated.
In Dune: Awakening, you don’t always have to rush between different scavenger camps to replenish your blood supply because everything in the game, including resources and enemies, respawns on a timer. This means that after approximately one game day, all elements in the world will be renewed, providing you with an opportunity to fight the same adversaries repeatedly within a relatively short time frame.
In Dune: Awakening, if you come across a reliable spot with several scavenger camps, make sure to note their locations and return each day to replenish your Blood Packs, which will help keep you hydrated until you acquire the Stillsuit and other long-term water-gathering techniques.
