The Amsterdam-based entertainment company, Piece of Magic Entertainment, has revealed its distribution plan for 2025, focusing on cinematic screenings as the core element of their European growth strategy. Highlighting this strategy is a meticulous 4K restoration of the cyberpunk classic “Akira.
The selection of anime shows from POM includes both classic, renowned titles and modern hits such as “Dan Da Dan: Evil Eye,” “Akira,” “Grave of the Fireflies,” and “Lupin the IIIrd The Movie: The Immortal Bloodline.” These four films are set to be screened in various European regions, indicating the distributor’s belief in the cinema-worthy nature of anime.

POM’s anime library encompasses both timeless, iconic series and modern sensations like “Dan Da Dan: Evil Eye,” “Akira,” “Grave of the Fireflies,” and “Lupin the IIIrd The Movie: The Immortal Bloodline.” These four titles will be shown in multiple European countries, showing the distributor’s faith in the cinematic allure of anime.
Leading the way is the eagerly awaited cinematic debut of “Dan Da Dan: Evil Eye,” scheduled for June 7-8 in 12 countries, including Germany and Austria on June 10. This release follows the popularity of “Dan Da Dan: First Encounter” from 2024. In theaters, viewers will receive the first three episodes of Season 2 along with exclusive bonus content that lasts for 10 minutes, only available in movie theaters. The launch covers Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Spain, Italy, Poland, Netherlands, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia, and Kosovo.
POM Animation has teamed up with Kodansha to bring the 4K remaster of the 1988 classic “Akira” to the big screen in 20 different countries. The movie will be released on July 16, a date significant to fans as it’s known as “Akira Day”, marking the catastrophic event that initiated World War III in the film’s narrative. This is the first time “Akira” will be shown in cinemas in several regions, thereby expanding POM’s “Akira” distribution from 12 to 20 territories this year. The new markets include countries like the Nordics and Baltics, Poland, Romania, Croatia, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, Greece, Cyprus, Hungary, Albania, Bulgaria, and Serbia.
Studio Ghibli’s heart-wrenching masterpiece, “Grave of the Fireflies,” is set for a summer release in 15 territories, including Benelux, the Baltics, and Eastern European markets. This World War II tale about siblings remains powerful as it serves as a poignant reminder of the human toll that war exacts, according to POM.
Completing our list is “Lupin the IIIrd: The Immortal Bloodline,” which marks a new 2D Lupin film after nearly three decades. Directed by Takeshi Koike, known for “Redline,” this movie is set to be released in Q4 2025, continuing POM’s fruitful collaboration with TMS Entertainment, following the successful European run of “Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro” last year.
Caspar Nadaud, CEO and founder of POM Anime and Piece of Magic Entertainment, stated, “Our collection seamlessly merges the enduring elegance of timeless masterpieces such as ‘Akira’ and ‘Grave of the Fireflies’ with the exhilaration of groundbreaking newcomers like ‘Dan Da Dan’ and ‘Lupin the Third.’ By acquiring multi-territory, theatrical rights for Europe, we are dedicated to giving viewers an opportunity to experience the worldwide charm of these legendary productions and stay ahead in enjoying the best of the latest premium anime content.
