Nintendo Switch 2 passes JerryRigEverything durability test with one major flaw

In a recent upload, YouTube personality JerryRigEverything shared the durability test for the rumored Nintendo Switch 2. To his surprise, despite identifying one significant issue during testing, the device managed to pass the test overall.

Whenever a fresh, big-time gaming gear drops, I can’t resist giving it a whirl in JerryRigEverything’s famous durability challenges. It’s all about finding out if this new gadget can withstand the test of time and my clumsy hands!

Mostly, his video content revolves around smartphones, yet he occasionally discusses significant launches such as the Steam Deck and the Nintendo Switch too.

On June 5, 2025, Nintendo Switch 2 hit the market, and swiftly, JRE shared his assessment of its robustness on YouTube. The video showcased the vlogger’s astonishment over the device’s resilience, despite a significant weakness being present.

Nintendo Switch 2 screen scratches easily

JerryRigEverything’s durability test videos involve several types of assessments such as scratch resistance, heat tolerance, among others. For instance, in the video under discussion, he examines the attachment points for the Joy-Con 2.

The youtuber found out promptly that the Switch 2 has a tendency to scratch easily, even on its own screen.

He pointed out that the screen Nintendo provided us is made of plastic, which isn’t perfect. Any metal items will scratch it, as evident by my keys leaving marks. However, plastic objects such as my Legos or the docking station won’t leave any scratches on the screen.

Switch 2 passes JRE durability test

Even though the Switch 2’s plastic screen can be quickly scratched, it still managed to pass JerryRigEverything’s toughness exam, largely due to the way Nintendo affixed the Joy-Con 2.

Initially unveiled, there was widespread apprehension on social media platforms about the flexible plastic connector linking the magnetic Joy-Cons to the main console. To examine its durability, Jerry decided to perform a stress test and attempted to bend it.

He stated that when a significant amount of pressure is applied, the Joy-Cons tend to detach on their own. In his viewpoint, this is advantageous because it seems like the bending Joy-Cons don’t harm the internal connections, regardless of how frequently they are violently pulled off or forcibly removed from the console in reverse motion.

The detachment is gradual enough so as not to strain or stress the port excessively. Initially, I harbored some skepticism, but upon handling the Switch 2 and experiencing the connection of the Joy-Cons firsthand, I’m significantly more assured that it can endure everyday use with ease.
