Enthusiasts of Pokemon can revisit the Kalos region on the 16th of October, as Pokemon Legends: Z-A is scheduled to debut on Nintendo Switch and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. The Pokemon Company unveiled the Switch 2 version of this much-anticipated sequel just last week. Interestingly, preorders for Pokemon Legends: Z-A started on the very same day that Nintendo’s new console was launched (June 5). You can place your preorder for either edition at Walmart and Best Buy stores.
Pokemon Legends: Z-A sells for $60 on a Nintendo Switch and $70 for the Switch 2. It’s intriguing to note that Walmart’s new store pages for these versions hint at an exclusive gift, though currently, their respective product pages do not explicitly state this offer. It’s possible there’s been a mix-up with the URLs, and we’ll share more information as it becomes available.
Pokemon Legends: Z-A Preorder Bonuses
While Pokemon titles have occasionally offered pre-purchase incentives, most Nintendo first-party games don’t come with official bonuses. Instead, stores like Walmart, Best Buy, Target, and GameStop sometimes outdo each other by providing exclusive extras. It remains unclear if any other significant retailers will offer unique perks.
If you place a pre-order for your Pokemon merchandise at the Pokemon Center in either the United States, Canada, or the United Kingdom, you stand a chance to receive a randomly selected Pokemon Sitting Cuties plush toy featuring characters like Chikorita, Tepig, and Totodile.
In the next installment following Pokemon Legends: Arceus, players revisit the region of Kalos, home to Pokemon X and Y on the 3DS. Unlike the open landscapes of rolling hills and wilderness in Arceus, Lumiose City offers a vibrant urban setting, providing a refreshing change of pace. To start your journey, you’ll be partnered with either Chikorita, Totodile, or Tepig. The improved catching system from Arceus will make a return, allowing you to catch Pokemon without engaging in battles first before throwing a Poke Ball at them.
In a different twist from previous games like Arceus, the fight system in Z-A will undergo a significant change. Instead of the conventional turn-based combat, expect a dynamic, real-time strategy where you and your partner Pokemon can maneuver during battle encounters, albeit within a defined zone. The placement and timing of your actions will greatly influence the outcome on the battlefield, whether it’s launching an attack or evading incoming attacks through skillful dodging.
Among the returning attributes in Arecus are capabilities like effortlessly tossing Poke Balls, which no longer require engaging in combat beforehand – making it smoother for you to collect them all swiftly.
In addition to fresh updates and improvements, an old favorite feature is coming back after being away for quite some time. Mega Evolutions, last seen in Pokemon: Let’s Go, Pikachu and Eevee in 2018, will allow your companion Pokemon to transform into a highly potent version of itself for a limited period. Notably, Mega Evolutions not only boost the power but also change the look of your Pokemon; however, only specific species can undergo Mega Evolution, and you’ll require a Mega Ring and a Pokemon-specific Mega Stone to enable it.
In various trailers, we’ve observed Pokemon like Lucario, Ampharos, and Kangaskhan undergoing Mega Evolution. This transformation was first presented in Pokemon X and Y, which makes it exciting that our journey back to Kalos region will feature this as well.
On July 22nd, the upcoming Pokemon Presents event hosted by The Pokemon Company is planned. It’s expected that we’ll get a closer look at Z-A during this live broadcast.
