Tron: Catalyst Demo Materializes On Steam

In a month’s time, we’ll be celebrating the 43rd anniversary since the first Tron film graced our screens. However, fans won’t have to endure any more waiting to dive back into the Grid. Just ahead of its official launch this month, a demo for Tron: Catalyst has been unveiled on Steam.

As stated by Mike Bithell, the director of Tron: Catalyst, the demo encompasses approximately the initial hour of the gameplay. Furthermore, Bithell pointed out that the game is designed to be compatible with ultra-wide screens, a feature he believes fits well within the scope of the franchise.

On my expansive monitor, it was inevitable that this scenario would unfold. After all, it’s Tron we’re dealing with – it demands such a grand display.

Instead of following the narrative-driven, cyberpunk style of Bithell Games’ previous title Tron: Identity, Tron: Catalyst offers a new experience as an isometric action game. In this sequel, players will employ their Identity Discs and Light Cycles to combat The Core, a powerful faction that maintains control over the Arq Grid.

It’s uncertain if the character Tron will show up in the game, as players will instead embody a new protagonist known as Exo. This fresh hero has vowed to continue Tron’s work by safeguarding the Grid and combating The Core at every turn. Exo can engage her adversaries using close-combat techniques, but her disc is her primary weapon, serving both offensive and defensive purposes.

On June 17, the game Tron: Catalyst will debut on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. However, that’s not all we can expect from the Tron universe this year. The upcoming feature film, Tron: Ares, is scheduled for release in cinemas on October 10. Last year, the lead actor of that movie, Jared Leto, had an exciting first-time experience at Walt Disney World as he rode the Tron: Lightcycle Power Run ride.
