True crime fans have one complaint about new JCS doc Amber’s Afternoon

In a delightful twist, Jim Can’t Swim, also known as JCS, has been generously treating us to not one but two videos in less than two months. Yet, aficionados of the true crime YouTube sensation have echoed a recurring critique with their latest mini-documentary titled “Amber’s Afternoon.

Monthly, streaming platforms launch an array of fresh true crime documentaries, but YouTube has emerged as a preferred destination for true crime enthusiasts.

Some well-known entities such as Chapter, Rotten Mango, Explore With Us, and Law & Crime Network are producing mini-documentaries on this platform, taking advantage of its fewer limitations compared to traditional broadcast networks.

However, JCS stands out in a league of its own. Known as the trailblazer of YouTube’s contemporary true crime style, their videos consistently attract millions of viewers. Interestingly, the creator maintains a mysterious persona, seldom appearing more than once or twice a year on the platform – until recently.

JCS faces AI backlash for Amber’s Afternoon

On June 4, 2025, two months following the airing of “Husband Tries To Act,” JCS unveiled a new production titled “Amber’s Afternoon.” Nevertheless, critics and viewers who follow their content have leveled allegations that the creator employed artificial intelligence in its creation.

On multiple occasions, JCS has found itself embroiled in similar accusations. In December 2024, they uploaded the mini-doc “Newlyweds Tell All” but had to take it down following claims that they swapped narrator, YouTuber Kizzume, with an artificial intelligence system.

Because of the extended periods between updates, shifts in the content’s tone, and JCS’ inconsistency between YouTube and Patreon, speculations arose regarding potential exhaustion, legal complications, and even the possibility that the channel was sold or left unattended.

In April, the YouTuber posted an apology together with “Husband Tries To Act,” saying, “We’re sorry for not meeting your expectations… Although the channel wasn’t sold and we didn’t leave it, we’ve been dealing with some issues outside of YouTube.

They promised to compensate their fans by providing regular updates, should the fans be open to giving them another opportunity.

It seems they’ve kept their word by swiftly producing Amber’s Afternoon, a show focusing on the interrogation of Amber Rose Rizwan, who is an attempted murderer. The narrative is enriched by comparing it to various other cases.

However, although this latest achievement on the channel with close to 900k views within 15 hours marks another triumphant tale, the newly released documentary has been hit with renewed accusations concerning its use of AI and the overall quality.

On Reddit, someone expressed, “I found it impossible to finish watching; I shut it off after 20 minutes. This JCS video is predominantly made up of interrogation clips with minimal or insignificant commentary.

Instead of focusing on pertinent material, they sometimes incorporate unrelated incidents, providing minimal or no explanation, merely to prolong the duration. Previously, they used to showcase relevant clips, elucidate the interrogation strategies employed by investigators, highlight subtle changes in the suspect’s demeanor, and neatly conclude each segment.

It’s great that they cleaned up the AI errors, but it seems the person writing the new scripts is missing the essence of what made the initial videos appealing.

An alternative response was, “But someone else countered, ‘I’m not fully convinced that AI has no role here. It seems as though a script was run through this, efforts were made to refine it, but it appears they ran out of steam halfway and hastily put the video together.’

In another place, someone observed, “Does it seem to me alone that the interrogation video appears manipulated or overly colored? The recent videos have given me a strange aftertaste. I used to enjoy JCS content, but just one minute in, and I’m not feeling hopeful at all?

Initially, it seems to me that an artificial intelligence might have been used. After twenty minutes, the storyline appears fragmented and the narration looks rough. Is it just me, or does anybody else find this unclear? Could it be possible that I’m not connecting with it?

Not all videos will share the same level of editing, commentary, style as those in the Dalia Dippolito or Jon Koppenhaver cases, but this one seems to be lacking something, doesn’t it?

Another individual concurred, saying, “To be honest, I’ve been feeling the same way. I haven’t completed the video yet, but it seems like things aren’t quite connecting. It feels like we’re hopping around aimlessly for no discernible reason (so far).

What Kizzume said about AI

Overall, viewers seem mainly delighted to get more JCS content. One viewer even commented, “This video definitely holds my interest. It’s a compilation showing various reactions to similar situations.

Each reaction stands out distinctly and leaves a lasting impression. I eagerly anticipate more material to come our way. However, what could make it even better is if there was additional explanation for why each reaction occurred in the manner it did.

It seems that similar content appeared more frequently in the older videos, but having any fresh material is always preferable to none at all. Definitely worth taking a look.

Despite JCS not making a public statement about AI usage in the latest video, narrator Kizzume had clarified any ambiguity regarding this topic earlier in the year.

He pointed out that some individuals have made inaccurate statements about him and me concerning JCS. Before using AI for his voice, JCS obtained my approval. Furthermore, I’m being paid the same rate per word as I usually am.

“They’re definitely not deceiving me. Future content will include the authentic voiceovers I provided.

Kizzume explained, “We employed AI to speed up the process since they’ve been away for two years, dealing with personal issues. The aim was to release the videos promptly. However, it’s clear now that using AI was a mistake and they will devote more time to produce videos using my original voice.
