As a passionate movie enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that I’ve been cast alongside Jason King, Zin Yang, and Eugenie Liu in “The Evil Inside,” the latest chilling thriller from the brilliant Taiwanese director Lingo Hsieh. We are currently bringing this project to life on set. Previously, it was announced that the esteemed Joan Chen would also be part of our gripping cast. This genre-bending film is inspired by shocking real-life events that resonated deeply within a nation.
Making his debut in a Taiwanese feature film, Chen’s latest project serves as another significant achievement in the impressive career of an actor recognized for roles in “The Last Emperor,” “Lust, Caution” and “Didi.
Since the 1980s, King has been a mainstay in Taiwanese cinema and was recently nominated for a Golden Horse Award for his role in “A Journey in Spring.” In his upcoming project, he will portray Guang, a seemingly altruistic figure who runs a nursing home. However, this character hides sinister secrets, using the facility as a front for an illicit gambling operation that exploits terminally ill patients under the guise of compassionate care.

King, known for his long-standing career in Taiwanese cinema and receiving a Golden Horse Award nomination last year for “A Journey in Spring,” will step into the role of Guang. This character appears to be a selfless individual who operates a nursing home, but there’s more to him than meets the eye. Guang is involved in a clandestine gambling operation that preys on terminally ill patients, masquerading it as compassionate care within the facility.
Despite possessing considerable darkness within him, I aim to portray the human side of such a troubled individual, revealing his journey towards that state, according to King.
King commented that working with Joan Chen significantly boosts his performance due to her charm and abilities. Psychologically, it appears we complement each other wonderfully in a give-and-take manner,” King stated regarding their acting collaboration.
Director Hsieh commended Jason King’s handling of the intricate character, stating, “His portrayal is rich in subtlety and elegance, which truly captivates his character.
Emerging talent Zin Yang, who was honored with a Taipei Film Award for “Wrath of Desire,” will portray Meiyu, a faithful confidant to the character Guang. Yang explained, “Meiyu is not a stereotypical villainess; she’s a person – devoted yet manipulated by her emotions. I aim to let viewers witness her suffering.”
Promising actress Zin Yang, known for winning a Taipei Film Award for “Wrath of Desire,” steps into the role of Meiyu, Guang’s trustworthy ally. Yang stated, “Meiyu is not a one-dimensional villain; she’s a human being, influenced by her emotions and loyalty. I want viewers to feel her pain.
Twice nominated for a Golden Horse Award, Eugenie Liu – known for her roles in “Old Fox” and “Daughter’s Daughter” – portrays Bao, the estranged daughter of Chen in the movie. Liu expressed, “My character has to make tough decisions, but working with Joan allows me to explore deeply. I feel privileged that she plays my mother.
Hsieh, recognized for her 2016 horror movie “The Bride,” is taking charge of directing and co-writing a new thriller. This venture is being handled by DaSun Pictures, a company renowned for fostering collaborations between Southeast Asian and North American film markets.
