‘Wicked: For Good’ Trailer: Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo Put Glinda and Elphaba to the Test in Dazzling First Footage From Sequel

It’s time to venture back to the Emerald City.

Universal has unveiled the authentic preview for “Wicked: For Good,” the upcoming sequel to the successful 2024 Broadway film adaptation.

In ‘Wicked: For Good’, Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande, Jonathan Bailey, Michelle Yeoh, Jeff Goldblum, Ethan Slater, Marissa Bode, and Bowen Yang reprise their roles as Elphaba, Glinda, Fiyero, Madame Morrible, the Wizard of Oz, Boq Woodsman, Nessarose Thropp, and Pfannee respectively. The films are directed by Jon M. Chu with screenplays penned by Winnie Holzman and Dana Fox.

Before and After Dorothy’s Kansas Visit,” will delve into the happenings of the musical’s second act. This film will focus on Elphaba and Glinda’s friendship being strained as they grapple with their new roles as the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good Witch of the North, respectively. The story will also highlight how the outcomes of their decisions will irrevocably alter Oz for good.

In the previous year, the Broadway adaptation of “Wicked” was an enormous success and earned a staggering $756 million globally at the box office, securing its place as the highest-grossing Broadway adaptation in history and ranking third among Universal’s all-time top films. It garnered 10 Academy Award nominations across various categories such as best picture, lead actress (Erivo), supporting actress (Grande), costume design, editing, makeup and hairstyling, production design, original score, sound, and visual effects. Notably, it won in the categories of costume design and production design. This victory marked a historic milestone, with Paul Tazewell becoming the first Black man to win the costume design category.

“Wicked: For Good” is scheduled to be released in theaters on Nov. 21.
