You’re Gonna Need To Upgrade Your Gaming Setup If You Want To 100% Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour

In simpler terms, similar to Astro’s Playroom and Aperture Desk Job, the Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour appears to be an engaging, educational demonstration of the console’s new features. However, unlike its predecessors, this demo comes with an additional cost of $10, on top of the $450-$500 already spent by players. Now, some careful observers browsing Nintendo of Japan’s product page for Welcome Tour (via Nintendo Soup) have found a detail that might disappoint frugal gamers even further.

For those unfamiliar with Japanese, a notice at the page bottom indicates that three mini-games in Welcome Tour need additional equipment: One game needs a USB camera, another requires a Nintendo Switch 2 controller with GL/GR buttons, and yet another necessitates connecting your Nintendo Switch 2 to a 4K TV.

While Nintendo doesn’t require players to purchase additional equipment like the Steel Battalion controller, there are two exceptions: a USB camera and a specific type of television – a 4K TV. Interestingly, many households in the U.S. already have a 4K TV, and for those who don’t, they might find themselves drawn towards the Piranha Plant camera, though it’s not strictly necessary. However, the controller is a unique case, as the GL/GR buttons are new, programmable buttons found on the underside of the Switch 2 Charging Grip controller and the new Pro controller.

As of now, neither of these items can be found in people’s homes, and it’s been a topic of debate. Interestingly, while Nintendo didn’t increase the price of the system itself, accessories for Switch 2 have seen a price hike. The Charging Grip is now $39.99, and the new Pro controller has climbed up to $84.99. Despite this, it’s worth noting that with the aim of demonstrating how well Switch 2 works with new technology during Welcome Tour, Nintendo has added enjoyable activities even for optional equipment.
