Avatar 3m Teases Family Tragedy and New Villains!

The upcoming Avatar film is expected to be the most emotionally charged movie in the series, given that it focuses on the struggle of coping with grief. As the third installment draws near, the stars hint that the Sully family will face trials unlike any other, grappling with a heart-wrenching loss.

In an interview with Empire, actors Britain Dalton (Lo’ak), Trinity Bliss (Tuk) and Jack Champion (Spider) discussed the positions of their characters within James Cameron’s film. Dalton, who plays Lo’ak, the son of Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoë Saldaña) and the narrator for the upcoming Avatar sequels, expressed that his character feels responsible for the death of his sibling, Neteyam, and aims to demonstrate his leadership skills to help guide his family through difficult times.

[Lo’ak] was destined to lead, yet he never received the trust. He feels this is not how Neteyam ever envisioned his final moment.” This was shared via communication. “Upon Neteyam’s demise, it wasn’t the way he thought things would unfold. He harbors self-blame.” Bliss, who is Tuk, Jake and Neytiri’s biological child, believes that the Sully family will undergo a significant change following Neteyam’s death. “[Neytiri] may never be the same again,” she said. “This is her first encounter with death. Despite her small size, she remains strong and resilient. Perhaps she’ll climb up the ranks within the Sully community.

As a movie enthusiast, I find myself deeply moved by Spider’s character in the story. Adopted by Jake and Neytiri, Spider carries a heavy burden of guilt, for he is the son of Colonel Miles Quaritch – the villainous RDA chief reborn as a Na’vi. He knows his father’s evil deeds yet struggles to reconcile this with his feelings towards him. Champion described Spider’s state of mind, saying, “Spider is torn between loyalties. His ‘father’ is now in the form of a Na’vi, just as evil, if not more so. Yet, he feels compelled to protect him. The struggle between guilt and belonging unfolds, and we witness Spider’s journey towards finding his place.

The Sullys Struggle With Loss and a New Villain

The movie, Fire and Ash, delves into the Sullys’ unconventional methods of coping with loss, offering a deeper perspective to their recovery narrative. Zoe Saldana enriched the mystery as they strive to endure on Pandora post-tragedy.

In addition to dealing with their grief, the Sully family finds themselves facing a fresh adversary: the leader of the Ash Clan, whose values contrast sharply with those of the Na’vi community. The final installment of the Avatar series, titled Fire and Ash, promises an intense conclusion, leading up to a thrilling third part before the franchise shifts its focus to Earth.

The upcoming Avatar sequel will similarly star Sigourney Weaver (Kiri), Kate Winslet (Ronal), and Giovanni Ribisi (Parker Selfridge. James Cameron has been finalizing post-production work in New Zealand, while Bob Iger, the head of Disney, is making decisions regarding the project from his office.

Avatar: Fire and Ash opens in theaters on Dec. 19.
