Mark Hamill, well-known for his portrayal of Luke Skywalker in the legendary space fantasy saga, initially kept his Jedi Knights status and childhood idol role low-key when he stepped onto the Broadway stage. Instead, he listed himself in the playbill as “also recognized from a sequence of beloved space films.” However, Carrie Fisher called him out on that, Hamill revealed in an interview with NPR’s Fresh Air, according to reports.

In a different phrasing: “She asked, ‘Why don’t you ever bring up Star Wars?’, to which Hamill replied, ‘I was trying to emphasize my theater background.’ To this, she responded, ‘Come on, get over it! You are Luke Skywalker, I am Princess Leia. Own it.’

Hamill continued, “I could understand her point, if you will, because one asks oneself, ‘What unique space do I inhabit that others don’t?’ She helped me see things from a broader viewpoint.

In the Disney era, Hamill became deeply attached to the “Star Wars” universe, a fact well-known by its devoted followers. He reprised his character, Luke Skywalker, in the sequel trilogy of movies, and had likely shared more screen time with Fisher if circumstances had allowed.

Mark Hamill Won’t Be Part of Any New Star Wars Films

New “Star Wars” movies are in development, featuring Daisy Ridley’s character Rey prominently. This information was confirmed by him during an interview with reporters.

For being included in those early days when George referred to Star Wars as “the most expensive low-budget movie ever made”, Hamill said, “We didn’t anticipate it would turn into an enduring franchise and such a significant part of pop culture. But here’s the thing – I had my moment. I’m grateful for it, but I truly believe they should concentrate on the future and all the fresh characters.

He emphasized that during his conversation on Fresh Air, he expressed gratitude for being involved but acknowledged that the project has concluded. “As an actor, once a job is done, I move on to the next one,” he stated. “I must adjust my mindset when interacting with fans who want to discuss the past or current projects, focusing instead on the future.

Hamill continues to hold a special place in the hearts of his fans. As he put it, “Without the fans, I wouldn’t be where I am today. And for that, I’m truly thankful.” He went on to say, “They know things about my work that I didn’t even realize… In essence, they played a significant role in my journey.
