The much-anticipated Disney+ release of “Snow White” is just around the corner! This live-action adaptation, featuring Rachel Zegler as our beloved princess and Gal Gadot as the wicked queen, hit the big screen in March. Critics’ opinions on “Snow White” were split, with Zegler garnering a lot of positive attention while other aspects of the film drew more criticism. Unfortunately, at the box office, this live-action reboot failed to impress, earning $205 million globally compared to its reported budget of $240 million.
Starting June 11, you’ll be able to stream Disney’s beloved classic, Snow White, exclusively on Disney+. Unlike other streaming services, this live-action version of Snow White won’t be shared with any other platforms; it will only be available for viewing on Disney+. Meanwhile, the 1937 animated movie, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, will remain accessible on Disney+ too.
What This Means For Snow White
It May Fare Better On DIsney+ Than It Did In Theaters
Despite Snow White‘s underwhelming performance at the box office, there’s a possibility it could see improved viewership after its Disney+ debut. Many movies that struggle to draw crowds in cinemas often find success when streamed online, and it seems plausible that this trend might apply to Snow White. Given its family-friendly nature, the film could thrive on Disney+’s platform, potentially garnering more interest as time goes by. This is a benefit it didn’t have while playing in theaters.
Regardless of how negatively Snow White was criticized on IMDb, it’s essential to keep in mind that this represents only a fraction of the overall audience. The number of viewers could significantly increase once the film becomes available for streaming on Disney+, allowing people everywhere to watch it from the comfort of their homes. Those who initially decided not to see the movie due to unfavorable reviews or negative media coverage now have an easier opportunity to watch it, and this curiosity might lead to a surge in viewership.
Our Take On Snow White’s Disney+ Future
This Could Be A Fresh Start For The Live-Action Remake
Despite Snow White not ranking among my favorite Disney live-action reboots, I’m optimistic it will thrive on Disney+. With its move to streaming, the film no longer has to contend with its share of controversies, critical reviews or box office performance. The live-action adaptation of Snow White can now be appreciated as a standalone production without the negative connotations that accompanied its theatrical release. Having both the animated and live-action versions on Disney+ demonstrates that remakes do not diminish the original movies; instead, they offer separate experiences to enjoy for different reasons.
