Winston star Ian McShane reveals subtle clue John Wick isn’t dead

Prior to the launch of “Ballerina”, Ian McShane, the legendary actor from the “Winston” series in the John Wick films, has subtly hinted at a clue in the ending of “John Wick: Chapter 4”. This suggests that Keanu Reeves’ character, Baba Yaga, may have survived and continues to be active.

Just to clarify, it’s been confirmed that the ruthless killer who was thought to have perished is indeed alive and well. This is evident as he will reappear in John Wick 5, a film that is now being produced.

However, despite some uncertainty about it, Wick’s apparent demise during his fight against Caine in the fourth chapter was not definitively shown. In the realm of action movies, a missing corpse often implies an undeath, so there were clear hints that he might have survived.

I recently had the chance to sit down with McShane for a chat about Ballerina, but he also shared some intriguing insights on John Wick 5 and the tantalizing Winston moment that adds fuel to the speculation we’ve been buzzing about.

Ian McShane opens up about the cryptic John Wick farewell

McShane stated that no one genuinely thinks he perished [in John Wick 4],” he shared with us, then gestured towards the final scene where Winston and the Bowery King (Laurence Fishburne) were seen at Wick’s tombstone.

As I reached into the casket, I murmured in Russian, “Dosvidaniya moy syn,” which means “Goodbye, my son.” A hint of a smile played on my lips as I wondered, could it be Lawrence Fishburne inside? After all, you never really know what lies within.

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but notice that amidst all the chaos and Wick’s dog darting off-screen with excitement, there’s a quiet moment between the characters that seems to hint at a shared understanding: they both seem to realize that the hound isn’t truly deceased; instead, he had to flee from the fury of the High Table to survive.

If there’s anyone capable of pulling it off, it’s John Wick. However, we’ll need to see Chapter 5 to discover his fate following the duel.

For now, the movie Ballerina will be shown in theaters, featuring Ana de Armas as Eve, a ballet-dancing assassin who was brought up by the very same Ruska Roma criminal organization that shaped John Wick himself.

Despite sharing similar roots, director Len Wiseman mentioned to TopMob that Eve is yet to reach the same caliber as the Boogeyman.

Wiseman stated, ‘I believe with time, she still has some distance to cover. After all, John Wick is renowned for good reason, and we’ll find out how things unfold. He’s proven himself to reach that status, so she must demonstrate her worth.’

Starting June 6, 2025, catch the Ballerina movie in cinemas! Until then, explore all upcoming John Wick films, insights into the Wick anime, top picks from Keanu Reeves’ filmography, and other must-watch movies for this month.
