Elden Ring Nightreign: Trace Of Night Explained

In the game known as Elden Ring Nightreign, players gradually gather a handful of crucial items during their journeys as they progress through the main tale and individual questlines for each character. Unlike other items in your inventory, these key items remain permanently with you after an expedition concludes.

In the opening stages of Elden Ring Nightreign, players will acquire an essential item called the Mark of Twilight. Its purpose isn’t instantly evident, but it plays a crucial role in the game’s narrative and these are its functions:

1. Summoning other players for multiplayer cooperation or challenging them to PvP battles.
2. Activating certain environmental interactions that advance the main questline.
3. Unlocking hidden secrets and lore throughout the world of Elden Ring Nightreign.

What Is The Trace of Night In Elden Ring Nightreign

Players earn their initial Piece of Shadows upon completing their first mission against Gladius. This item will reside in your inventory’s key section, and its primary function is to enhance it further with more Pieces of Shadows, which eventually allows you to access the final boss of the game. However, the specific actions that the Piece of Shadows performs occur automatically behind the scenes.

Regardless of how many Nightlords you vanquish, you will always possess just one Trace of Night in your inventory items. As you subdue more Nightlords, their Traces of Night combine with the one you have, boosting its power. However, there’s no visible sign or notification to show this merging process. To confront the game’s final boss, you will require a Trace of Night that has been charged by all four of the Nightlords, which can be achieved by defeating any of the three additional Nightlords that become available following the defeat of Gladius, who serves as everyone’s initial Trace of Night.

Following your conquest over a total of four Nightlords, you’ll unlock the chance for the climactic journey against the Night Aspect. This mission mirrors others in its operation, but the Nightlord serves as the final boss of the game, and vanquishing him will trigger the game’s ending.

You’re free to embark on multiple expeditions prior to encountering the final boss, and post-game, you can keep participating in any expedition of your choice.

How To Check How Many Nightlords You’ve Defeated In Elden Ring Nightreign

In “The Trace of Night,” there won’t be any signs that show the number of Nightlords you’ve defeated, but you can find out this information in the expedition menu instead.

  • Interact with the roundtable to open the expeditions menu.
  • In the, “Targets” tab you’ll find every expedition you can complete and the Nightlord for that expedition.

If there’s a black line across the boss’s symbol, that signifies you’ve triumphed over it. To access the ultimate adventure in the game, you must vanquish four distinct Nightlords. Defeating a Nightlord more than once won’t give you another Trace of Night.
