Nearly 5 Years After Release, Halo Infinite Is Finally Getting Grifball

following a considerable gap, Grifball will make its comeback in Halo Infinite on June 10, as Microsoft has revealed. The announcement confirms that an authentic version of this 4-player football-style game is set to be released, bringing an end to the extended wait.

As a gaming enthusiast, I couldn’t contain my excitement when Microsoft announced the comeback of Grifball! They shared this thrilling news in a video posted on X, which you can check out right below. To pay tribute to Grifball’s origins at Rooster Teeth and the broader Machinima culture, the video showcases an engaging in-game chat between two Halo characters, complete with those signature head-nods that signify who’s talking.

At present, we’ve only been given a glimpse into how Grifball will appear in Halo Infinite, which is referred to as the “new era” of this popular match type. Fans have long asked for an official version, but so far, their requests haven’t been met. The developers at Halo Studios haven’t clarified the reasons behind the delay, but fans speculate that unique features in Halo Infinite, like the altered Gravity Hammer mechanics, might be causing difficulties in implementing Grifball. Consequently, in recent times, Grifball has primarily been playable within The Master Chief Collection.

Despite a lull in major Halo releases recently, the creators have been consistently introducing fresh content and gameplay options into Halo Infinite. For example, the fan-favorite Firefight Classic co-op mode was incorporated earlier this year; more recently, an unusually wild weapon known as the Mutilator was introduced to the game last month.

It appears we might not hear any official news about future Halo games just yet, so don’t expect Halo-related announcements at the Xbox showcase during Summer Games Fest. However, rest assured that Halo Studios is actively developing new titles using Unreal Engine 5, as they outlined in their long-term plan last year.
