Here’s How GameShare Works Between Switch 2 And Original Switch

Prior to the release of Nintendo Switch 2 this week, they have clarified the operation of their GameShare feature and how initial Nintendo Switch users can take advantage of it.

According to VGC’s report, a recent update on the Nintendo Today app showcases the new GameShare feature and lists the initial collection of first-party games that will work with it. Initially, a video was attached to the post, but has since been taken down. However, you can still watch it on Reddit.

As a dedicated player, I’ve learned that for a GameShare-friendly game like Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Classics to function smoothly, there’s an essential step I need to take first: downloading a complimentary update before diving into the action. On the main screen of the game, it’s crucial to choose this specific mode for uninterrupted play.

As a thrilled Switch 2 enthusiast, I’d love to highlight an exciting feature called GameShare. With this, as a proud owner of Switch 2, I can generously share my games, whether in person or digitally, with fellow Switch users, even if they don’t own the game or need to download anything. The receiving users simply tap the GameChat icon on their home screen to enjoy the shared gaming experience!

In the demonstrated video, it’s clear that GameShare doesn’t just stream a single copy of the game; instead, each participant experiences the game as if they have their unique instance. For example, in card games or Mahjong, each player would only view their own hand, much like having their individual copies of the game.

The article demonstrates that GameShare can operate in close proximity using local wireless connections. It’s important to note that the initial setup must be initiated by a Nintendo Switch Lite user, but the feature is capable of functioning seamlessly across both Nintendo Switch Lite and original Nintendo Switch consoles.

GameShare operates online through GameChat, implying that the recipient devices should also be of the latest Switch model, namely Switch 2.

The Nintendo Today post confirms the following games are compatible with GameShare:

  • Super Mario Odyssey
  • Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker
  • Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury
  • Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Classics
  • Big Brain Academy: Brain vs. Brain

Additional information is given about how each game can be played using GameShare, for instance, Super Mario Odyssey allows two individuals to play, one as Mario and the other as Cappy. Notably, the roles can be interchanged, so it’s not only the sharer who gets to control Mario.

Although Nintendo has only verified GameShare for their own titles, it’s also been confirmed that the launch game for Switch 2, Survival Kids, will allow up to three players to use GameShare as well.

In a new video for the unveiling of the Switch 2, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang disclosed details about designing the unique processor for the Switch 2, asserting that it boasts the most sophisticated graphics yet found in any handheld gadget.
