In the premier trailer for “Dexter: Resurrection“, we see the comeback of James Remar as Harry Morgan, Dexter’s foster father. Interestingly, Harry was already deceased prior to the occurrences in season 1 of Dexter, which debuted on Showtime in 2006. However, he made appearances throughout all eight seasons of the original series, manifesting as a spectral presence that only Dexter could perceive. This spectral figure was subsequently replaced by Dexter’s sister, Deb Morgan – who met her end in the controversial finale of Dexter‘s eighth season – in the initial sequel series, New Blood. The upcoming series, “Resurrection”, is slated for release on July 11, 2025, exclusively on Paramount+ with Showtime.
In the newly debuted prequel series “Dexter: Original Sin”, Christian Slater stepped into the role of Harry Morgan, a character who until then had only appeared outside of psychological visions or flashbacks in the Dexter series. A sneak peek at the trailer for “Dexter: Resurrection” revealed that James Remar will reprise his role as Dexter’s guide in the subsequent sequel series, taking on a concerned and paternal character. In one scene from the trailer, Harry advises Dexter with a note of caution, saying, “Be careful, son.” However, Dexter replies defiantly, hinting at an aspect of his character that has yet to be explored – a potentially unstable side to Dexter.
Resurrection Has To Explain Why Harry Looks So Much Older In Dexter’s Imagination
It’s Been 12 Years Since James Remar Last Played Harry
In the storyline, since James Remar’s character, Harry Morgan, is a figment of Dexter’s imagination, it presents a complex challenge when depicting his appearance compared to living characters like David Zayas’ Angel Batista. This is because Dexter recalls Harry as he was in the past, around when Dexter himself was about 20 years old. However, the timeline of “Original Sin,” featuring Patrick Gibson as a 30-year-old Dexter, slightly alters this memory.
In the series Dexter: Resurrection, it appears that James Remar’s character, Remar, is significantly older than he was during the original Dexter series, despite the fact that a ghostly image shouldn’t age. Interestingly, the trailer for Dexter: Resurrection does not seem to indicate any de-aging effects on Remar, which might be beneficial since such technology could potentially distract from the story. However, it remains puzzling that his character would appear 20 years older in the current series compared to when James Remar first portrayed Harry in Dexter season 1. The fact that Christian Slater plays a version of Harry in visions complicates matters further, as both versions of Dexter are developing independently.
Dexter: Resurrection Avoiding De-Aging James Remar As Harry Is Still The Right Decision
It’s Better Than Risking The De-Aging Technology Being A Major Distraction
In the past, technology used to de-age characters has advanced significantly, but having just Harry be de-aged in Dexter: Resurrection might have been quite distracting due to the introduction of new characters like Uma Thurman’s Charley and Peter Dinklage’s Leon Prater. Dexter has often managed to get away with actors not matching their characters’ supposed ages in the past, so this choice seems logical. For instance, Michael C. Hall’s portrayal of young Dexter in flashbacks wearing a wig remains memorable.
Why Dexter Is Seeing Harry Again In Resurrection After Having Visions Of Deb In New Blood
Debra Represented Dexter’s Guilt In New Blood, While Harry Acts As A Dark Guide
As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but ponder about the enigmatic characters in Dexter: Resurrection. The mysteries surrounding Angela Bishop, Dexter’s new girlfriend, and Debra, my beloved sister in the series, are particularly intriguing. Although there’s a chance we might see Angela again in Resurrection, it seems rather unlikely that Jennifer Carpenter’s character, Debra, will make a comeback. This could be an unprecedented twist in the series history, as Dexter might be graced with two ghostly presences during the same season for the first time.
The creator of “Resurrection,” Clyde Phillips, might be saving Debra for a surprising cameo, yet her absence from the latest preview seems purposeful and significant. The moral code instilled by Harry continues to guide Dexter’s murders, but “Dexter: Resurrection” is hinting that Dexter may soon disregard some of these rules. This deviation could potentially lead to Harry’s reappearance, as he endeavors to restrain his son from straying off the path in the bustling metropolis of New York City.
