Spike Chunsoft Inc. has shared fresh insights about No Sleep For Kaname Date – From AI: THE SOMNIUM FILES, revealing additional playable characters in the Escape section, familiar faces from prior installments, and various aspects of the game mechanics. This captivating blend of detective adventure and puzzle-solving is set to launch on July 25, 2025, in North America and Europe for both Nintendo Switch 2 and original Nintendo Switch platforms, as well as Steam.

New Gameplay in Escape Segments

In Escape, you’ll assume the role of internet sensation Iris Sagan, or A-set, finding yourself confined within a locked chamber. Your objective is to decipher the enigmas hidden throughout the room and discover a means of escape. As the narrative unfolds, Ota Matsushita, a devoted fan and ally of Iris, will emerge as a playable character, ready to tackle the perils of this thrilling escape adventure game.

In the Escape segments with Ota, you take turns solving puzzles in a locked room by switching between Iris and Ota. Even though they’re apart, items or knowledge acquired by one character may be crucial for the other’s escape. By continually swapping between them, you can collect clues and piece together their discoveries to set both of them free.

Characters from previous games also make appearances.

Returning characters include:

Ota Matsushita

VA: Zach Aguilar
Japanese VA: Natsumi Fujiwara

A loyal admirer and companion of Iris, he had previously encountered Date during a prior investigation. Up until very recently, he found himself without work, but now single-handedly manages the family restaurant, “Matsushita Diner.” In tandem with Iris, he too becomes a playable character in Escape sequences.

Mizuki Date

VA: Corina Boettger
Japanese VA: Tomoyo Kurosawa

A student in the 6th grade holds the position of president at Lemniscate, a talent agency that manages Iris. Originally known as Okiura, she underwent adoption by Kaname Date following a specific event. She is exceptionally strong physically.

Kuruto Ryuki

VA: Stephen Fu
Japanese VA: Atsushi Tamaru

Tama

VA: Anairis Quiñones
Japanese VA: Ai Kakuma

In this new setting at ABIS, we meet Ryuki – a calm and composed investigator freshly assigned here. Similar to Date, he’s classified as a “Psyncer,” capable of venturing into dreamscapes for investigative purposes, and he carries the AI-Ball Tama in his left eye. Previously, Ryuki was one of the key characters in the game AI: THE SOMNIUM FILES – nirvanA Initiative. This latest edition focuses on Ryuki’s early days as a novice investigator.

Moma Kumakura

VA: Kaiji Tang
Japanese VA: Wataru Takagi

As head of the Kumakura Family, an organization that sees itself as a “moral gang,” he maintains strong ties to the criminal underworld and occasionally possesses information that even the police lack. Additionally, he harbors a hidden admiration for Iris, a passion that matches Ota’s fervor in this regard. This game features elements of gameplay reminiscent of previous installments within the series.

This new chapter unfolds following the events of the initial game, “AI: THE SOMNIUM FILES.” Yet, it also includes gameplay elements that debuted in the subsequent title, “AI: THE SOMNIUM FILES – nirvanA Initiative,” which occurs later in the storyline sequence.

Investigation: Wink Psync

Wink Psync serves as a streamlined adaptation of the Psync technique employed during investigations to catch a glimpse into someone’s thoughts. With Wink Psync, you can unearth untruths or discover hidden fears or secrets when conventional conversation proves fruitless. This innovative technology is primarily used by Kaname Date and Aiba in their work, although it remains experimental.

Somnium: Key Rules

In Somnium, you delve into the dreams of individuals related to a case to expose concealed facts. Each dreamscape adheres to a unique set of guiding principles, or Keys. By understanding these principles, you can comprehend the reasoning behind that world, facilitating actions that guide you toward truth. At first, the Keys seem empty, but as you advance, the descriptions explaining them become clearer. In the initial phases, exploration and trial-and-error are vital for uncovering the principles. Eventually, it becomes imperative to abide by the completed Key Rules.

Nintendo Switch 2 Physical Version

In simpler terms, instead of purchasing a traditional cartridge for the Nintendo Switch 2, you’ll get a Game Key Card. Upon initial use, the game is downloaded onto your console. This means that you need to have the card and an internet connection to start playing the game on your Nintendo Switch 2.

When you initially open the game, a stable internet connection is necessary. Also, it’s good to know that the system requires at least 10GB of free storage space. Additional room might be needed later for updates and other purposes.
