Over the past few years, one commonly chosen method for expanding the storage of an Xbox Series X|S console has been through Seagate’s Expansion Cards. It appears that a new 4TB memory card from Seagate is in the works, although it may not come at a budget-friendly price. A listing on Best Buy briefly appeared, suggesting that the cost could be around $430, but this information might have been premature since the listing was swiftly removed. Seagate has yet to officially confirm the new Expansion Card, but given an Xbox Showcase scheduled for June 8, it wouldn’t be unexpected if it were unveiled during the live stream.
Typically, Seagate offers 1TB and 2TB Expansion Cards; the 512GB ones appear to be out of production for some time. Similar to previous models, the 4TB Expansion Card is a straightforward upgrade option for your console storage. Simply slide it into the designated slot at the back of your Xbox, and you’re ready to go.

Not only that, but these Expansion Cards work seamlessly with Xbox’s Velocity architecture, ensuring swift load times for your games. Moreover, if you own more than one console, you can effortlessly move data between them using this compact drive.
The advantage of these Expansion Cards lies in that they provide nearly all of the advertised storage capacity as indicated on the packaging. For instance, a 1TB Seagate Expansion Card offers you approximately 920GB for storing games, whereas a 1TB Xbox Series X console only provides around 802GB for use, since some of it is reserved for the system’s operating system. Although we can’t be certain about the usable space on the 4TB Expansion Card, it should still offer a considerable amount.
It’s important to mention that Seagate faces competition from Western Digital in this market as well. Back in 2023, Western Digital introduced the C50 Expansion Card, which is available in 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB versions. Since their initial release, prices have dropped significantly. For instance, the WD Black 2TB Expansion Card was originally priced at $400, but now sells for just $250.
