‘All American’ Renewed for Eighth and Final Season at the CW

“All American” has been renewed for its eighth and final season on the CW.

The final season will have 13 episodes, set to air in the year 2026. According to CW, this series ranks as their highest-rated prime-time entertainment program among adults aged 18-49 and 25-54 demographics, and it’s also their most-watched series on The CW app.

What’s the briefest way to express the immense love and gratitude I have for ‘All American’, its fans, cast, crew, staff, and producers? As series showrunner Nkechi Okoro Carroll, my heart is overflowing with appreciation for everyone who breathed life into this series and made it a historic success. Saying goodbye to something so dear is tough, but we’re thrilled to be ending it in the way we always imagined – through this final season. A big thank you to Brad Schwartz, Channing Dungey, Brett Paul, and Greg Berlanti for backing our vision. Gratitude also to the executives at Warner Bros Discovery, CW, and Berlanti Productions who’ve stood with us since day one. Thanks to our cast members, writers, crew, and staff for consistently raising the bar episode after episode. Special thanks to Spencer Paysinger, whose life inspired this incredible journey. And thank you to every viewer who not only watched but embraced Spencer James’s philosophy of ‘Dream Big. Stay Real’. We acknowledge your efforts and salute you. Here’s to giving it our all one last time.

As a dedicated movie reviewer, I find myself reflecting on “All American,” the last remaining scripted series to grace our screens on The CW before it was sold to Nexstar. Now, The CW has shifted its focus primarily towards unscripted programming such as sports, game shows, and dating competitions, along with content that is licensed or co-produced from companies in Canada, Australia, and the U.K. Apart from “All American,” their slate includes “Penn & Teller: Fool Us,” “Son of a Critch” and more.

As a proud supporter, I can’t help but express my excitement about bringing back “All American” for one last season. This beloved CW series has left an indelible mark on television history, and we are privileged to offer fans a heartfelt farewell to these captivating characters and the enchanting world they inhabit.

Season 7 of this extraordinary show took daring leaps, introducing fresh personalities to complement our cherished ones, and the audience has wholeheartedly embraced every moment. Viewership soared by an impressive 71% among adults aged 18-49 and 55% among those between 25-54, from the very first episode of Season 7 to the final one.

I eagerly anticipate the raw emotion, warmth, and enchantment that Nkechi Okoro Carroll and the entire cast and creative team will pour into crafting a fitting conclusion for this unforgettable story.

The show first aired in 2018, with Daniel Ezra portraying Spencer James, a high school football player character inspired by NFL’s Spencer Paysinger. However, after Season 6, Ezra no longer played a main role. Instead, the narrative shifted to follow Jordan (Michael Evans Behling), Layla (Greta Onieogou), and Coop (Bre-Z) as they navigate early adulthood in subsequent Season 7. Additionally, Nathaniel McIntyre, Osy Ikhile, Antonio J. Bell, Alexis Chikaeze, and Kareem Grimes are part of the cast.

Channing Dungey, as head of Warner Bros. Television Group and WBD US Networks, expressed her excitement about ‘All American’ saying, “From the very first episode, viewers have become enamored with these characters and their emotional narratives. With Season 7, we had a unique chance to maintain this world for fans while introducing fresh faces alongside familiar favorites. I’m overjoyed that this story will persist through an eighth and final season. I trust Nkechi and our exceptional group of writers and executive producers to create something extraordinary. Thank you to Greg and Sarah at Berlanti Productions for their guidance, and to The CW for providing us with this opportunity.

In the year 2021, The CW introduced a spinoff called “All American: Homecoming,” focusing on Simone Hicks (played by Geffri Maya), Jordan’s former girlfriend, who was pursuing a tennis career at a historically Black university. This series ran for three seasons, wrapping up in September 2024, and featured performances from Peyton Alex Smith, Kelly Jenrette, Cory Hardrict, Sylvester Powell, Camille Hyde, Mitchell Edwards, Netta Walker, Rhoyle Ivy King, and Martin Bobb-Semple.

Okoro Carroll serves as the head writer for “All American,” and collaborates with Greg Berlanti, Jameal Turner, Sarah Schechter, and David Strauss on its production. This show is a joint venture between Warner Bros. Television and CBS Studios, in partnership with Berlanti Productions.
